New Gear from BumChums

Back in December I briefly mentioned one of my favorite new brands Bum-Chums in my holiday gift guide. Today I'd like to spend a little time to tell you a bit more about the brand and some of their new collections. Bum-Chums is a British company, but recently they have exploded across the pond to the United States as well as Australia and Europe. Perhaps one of the most unusual but key aspects of the Bum-Chums brand is the location of manufacture; Bum-Chums manufacture all their high quality products in Yorkshire, England, and can therefore truly claim to be a wholly British brand, a fact not lost on the company’s founders Craig Hendry and Gareth Dickinson, who consider the British origin of their underwear to be an intrinsic part of the brand, so much so that the Union Jack is proudly prominent on all their product labels!

Bum-Chums undies come in a number of lines and styles: there is the celestial line, which features metallic fabrics; there is the fruity line, which features bright colors; the sneak peek is just like it sounds, a sneak peek through mesh fabric; and the classic collection is basic colors.

In the past couple weeks Bum-Chums has launched two new lines: In2Cooler and Tool Belt. The Tool Belt is my favorite of the two. It comes in three colors: red, blue, and white. The pouch is made from a solid fabric in this color while the back is made from black mesh that connects to the pouch in the back as well as in a unique manner across the front (see images). This style is very unique; I haven't seen anything like it elsewhere. And it's just so damn sexy too (not to mention comfy). It retails for £18 (~$27 USD).

New Celebrity Brand: Rated M

Actor Mario Lopez of Saved by the Bell and Dancing with the Stars fame has recently launched his own collection of underwear. The brand is called Rated M and is for "Manful men and their very special guests" according to the tagline. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of information available on this brand. But from what I gather, there's a collection available through Mario's own site here. This collection includes trunks, briefs, singlets, and much more in basic cuts and solid colors. The collection looks like it would make a great foundation for dancing and rehearsals. It allows movement while providing comfort. There also appears to be a more limited collection available exclusively at Freshpair. The difference here I believe is the colors and the waistband. UPDATE 12/29/11: I've spoken with the folks at Freshpair, and actually the entire collection is exclusively available at Freshpair. The Rated M site is just a preview of the rest of the line that will be available at Freshpair. Currently just the "elementary line" is available, the rest will be available over the next few months.

This is just another in a whole slew of celebrity lines out there. Although it appears that this collection has been carefully crafted and engineered to give you the comfort you deserve. We're working on getting our hands on a pair or two, and as soon as we do we'll get back to you with our full report on how they fit and feel.

Big Boys Pants Does Skimpy Thongs Well - A Review

Today I'd like to take the opportunity to give you my take on one of my favorite thongs. While I often do wear thongs, it seems that I personally have never actually reviewed a thong (the closest I came was Croota's second skin bikini). So today I'd like to review a true thong from Big Boys Pants.

Now I must preface this review by saying that when I discuss things such as the comfort I am comparing it to other thongs I have tried. You must understand, of course, that wearing a thong is a completely different experience than other types of underwear, so my comments are based on the fact that I am already generally comfortable having a string up my ass (for lack of better explanation).

The Big Boys line in general is very reminiscent of the Obviously brand. The basic concept is to have a more roomy pouch to allow your junk to hang more freely and naturally. My general feeling on these concepts is that it basically results in a rather baggy looking pouch that is not all that flattering to the wearer. However, I feel that this idea actually does work really well with a thong. Often the problem with thongs is that there is not adequate room for your junk if you are more endowed or when you get an erection. There is just a thin strip of cloth and nowhere to go. But with this thong from Big Boys the pouch is bigger and there is somewhere to go. The pouch also fits well when you are not erect so there is no awkward extra fabric dangling there. Also instead of just being a strip of fabric as with most thongs, this pouch is cut in a more pouch shape to conform to the shape of your anatomy comfortably. As with all thongs, you have to be careful not to pull the waistband up too high and to wear it at a comfortable level.

As for the comfort. This mostly falls under the fit as I have already described. But in addition to the comfortable cut, this thong is also made of an incredibly soft and comfortable modal fabric. This fabric is responsible for the comfort in the cut is as well because it easily and comfortable stretches as needed. The wide waistband (wider than most thongs) sits flat and stays put, making for a very comfortable wearing experience throughout the day. I rarely find myself needing to adjust this thong, it moves with you as you sit and stand so you don't ever get that uncomfortable tightness in the pouch that can occur with thongs. I do notice that I'm wearing the thong (that's kind of how thongs work), but it's not uncomfortable.

In terms of style, these are pretty basic and plain. But the cut is so daring that you really don't need too much else going on. The thong comes in 5 solid colors (I tried steel) with complimenting waistbands. I do like the look of the grey waistbands better than the white as I feel the white ones look a little cheap. I do also wish that there were more color options, and some more colors that are not as bright; the cut is flashy enough.

Quality-wise these undies are exceptionally well-made. I've worn these numerous times and they hold up great in the wash while the colors remain brilliant. I would not, however, recommend machine drying them due to the fabric content. I feel that it would probably pill. At £13.95 (about $20 USD), these certainly aren't the cheapest thongs. But they also aren't the most expensive. I think you'll definitely get your money's worth as they last well and are some of the comfiest thongs out there that I've tried.

Overall, I give the Big Boys Pants Thong a total score of 8 based on the following criteria:

FIT -- 9 (out of 10) - Anatomical pouch. Wide waistband.

COMFORT -- 9 (out of 10) - Pouch accommodates all sizes. Moves with you.

STYLE -- 6 (out of 10) - Basic. Wish there were more color options.

QUALITY -- 9 (out of 10) - Exceptionally well-made.

VALUE -- 8 (out of 10) - Moderately priced. Will get your money's worth.

Holiday Gift Guide 2011

Sorry for the delayed guide, but better late than never right? And there are after all 12 days of Christmas, so while there may not be time everywhere to order in time for the first day, you can still make it before the end. Buying underwear for someone is a very personal matter. Especially for guys, because (as much as I'd like to argue otherwise) they don't get new underwear all that often, so when they do it's important that it works for them and their body. That being said, many guys have a strong preference for what style (boxers, briefs, trunks, etc) of underwear they wear. Some don't care that much or may be happy with a number of different styles, but others care a lot. So make sure you know your man well before buying. Also, it is very important for you to make sure you know your man's size. What he wears in pants may not be the same as his underwear, so make sure you check. Also, snooping in his underwear drawer may not tell you the completely correct size as it's possible he may have some old undies lying around that no longer fit or never fit. If you aren't going to ask him outright, make sure you look at a pair that you know fits him well. It's important you get the right size because most places won't let you return it.

That being said, underwear is a great gift for the holidays and many people love to give and receive it! So once you've figured out what style and size of underwear your man needs, there's still a whole lot to choose from. I've broken it down for you based on the personality/type of man who might like to wear each pair. Use this holiday underwear buying guide as a jumping off point for what to get your man. While some of these undies may seem a little expensive to you, you're paying for quality so they're worth it.

This year I have a great list for you, I believe I've only mentioned one of these brands before. So in addition to being a great gifting guide, this is also a good guide of some new brands to try for yourself.

For the Classic Man:

Naked boxerbriefs.

This category is for the guy who likes to keep it simple. He's not opposed to something with style, but he likes his comfort first.
Undz is a newer brand on the scene. They are very basic but still funky and stylish. Also, one of my favorite parts of them is they don't cost a lot ($4.99 a piece). So if your man needs lots of new undies, this is perfect. I personally really like their briefs.
Another brand that I'm really loving lately is Naked. They make very simple yet comfortable undies. When I wear these I feel like I'm, well naked. They truly feel like you're wearing nothing. I personally really like their boxerbrief fit (shown).

For the Lover/Boyfriend:

Body Aware Curacao briefs.

This category is for that special guy in your life - or just that guy you know will appreciate sexy undies. But as I've mentioned before: know your guy; not all guys like sexy undies.
I brand that has recently come to my attention is TBJON. They specialize in really sexy undies meant for your sexy activities. I really love their thongs. The lyte and kol styles are great.
A new brand that makes some pretty sexy undies is Mckillop. They only make jockstraps and pouches (jockstraps without straps). I really dig their colorful power jocks - currently on sale for $15.
And finally, a really sexy line is Body Aware, which has recently come to my attention. There's an exhaustive catalog - they've really got something sexy for everybody. Personally I really dig the Curacao briefs (shown). But there's a ton to search through there, so go check it out!

The Fun Guy:

Marek+Richard Underdog brief.

This category is for the guy who likes to have fun. He's adventurous and not afraid to take risks. That goes for his fashion choices as well. He's daring and confident in his appearance.
A new brand hailing from the UK is Bum-Chums. These undies are really fun and colorful. They have bright colors in their Fruity collection and metallic fabrics in their Celestial collection. These undies are for the guy that loves to have fun in (with) his pants choice.
A new-comer on the scene is Marek+Richard. The company was founded earlier this year by two young fashion designers who met while studying at school together. I really love their fun new take on things. Especially loving their underdog brief (shown) that combines mesh and cotton jersey for a very unique, runway look. Also they're currently having a sale.

The Fashionable Guy:

This category is for the guy that's all about style. He's all about refinement but also isn't afraid to have a little fun with his fashion choices.
My first selection comes from Spanish brand XTG Extreme Game, a clothing brand specializing in daring designs. I really love the subtle refinement that this brand brings to many of their undies. I really love their blackletter brief. It's a really fun fabric that is lightweight and semi-transparent. Very fashionable and refined.
While far from new, I'm always a fan of DT Clothes (formerly known as DT Jocks). They have some really fun and funky asymmetric undies that are very fashion-forward in my opinion.

Super Hero Briefs from DIESEL

Luis & Juke Trunks Reviewed

A while back I mentioned a new brand called Luis & Juke that specializes in fun, fashionable underwear for men. The designs are inspired by 1950s American rock and roll with bright colors and fun prints. Today I'd like to tell you about their Stevie Trunk, I tried mine in Singin' the Blues, but they're available in many more fun colors.

Starting with the fit, these are what I would call a generous fit. I've got to say they're much more coverage than the underwear I normally wear (especially since I've recently been on a briefs roll). That's not to say strictly that more coverage is a bad thing, it's just not what I'm personally used to. The legs hit mid thigh and the back coverage is ample. I definitely feel like everything is kept in place and under control with these on; no fear of falling out. The pouch has a functional fly and is well rounded to accommodate your junk. The ass has seams set to the far sides, which leads me to believe that these would comfortably stretch and conform to those who have more junk in the trunk. Just a word to the wise, when I first got these they were a little too large for me (granted I'm in between sizes). But due to the cotton content I was able to shrink them down in the dryer to a more comfy size (although technically you are supposed to line dry these).

These undies are very comfy. As I said I feel like everything is held together comfortably in them with no fear of falling out. The modest coverage makes these great undies for knocking around the house in while the patterns available make them fun and stylish (more on that later). The waistband is a little wider than most (about 1.5x the size of the average one). The inside of the waistband is soft and smooth and doesn't cut. All the seams are flat stitched, making for a smooth and comfy fit all around. The legbands are a thin elastic that is tight enough to keep things in place but not too tight to detract from the comfort. And like most comfy undies these days, the tag is printed on the inside, so no itchiness going on there. And again like many comfy undies, these guys are 95% cotton, 5% elastane (for shape).

I really like the style of these trunks, in fact the style is what makes them. They're a great comfy, go-go to pair for days when you just need that comfort. But the style is what makes me want to put them on and feel excited about wearing them. The pair that I tried is a fun blue and yellow striped pattern, you can definitely see the rock inspiration. They also have tons of other great, bright prints available, all with that 1950s vibe. If pattern isn't your thing, they also just have plain colors.

As for the quality and value? These undies are great quality. They hold up well to multiple washes and dries! The stitching is well done and the fabric is well made. At £10.95 at Rockola (that's about $17), they're a steal.

MY RATING:

Overall, I give the Luis and Juke Stevie Trunks a total score of 8.5 based on the following criteria:

FIT -- 8 (out of 10) - Generous coverage. Mid-thigh, higher waist. For me they were a little large but can be shrunk to size.

COMFORT -- 8 (out of 10) - Very comfy, go-to pair.

STYLE -- 9 (out of 10) - The style is fun and exciting. 1950s flair!

QUALITY -- 8 (out of 10) - Well made. Holds up to the washer and dryer.

VALUE -- 9 (out of 10) -Much less expensive than a lot of what we talk about here on MUB. Good buy for stylish and comfy go-to pair.

Michael Kors Launching New Men's Underwear Collection Soon

It seems that everyone who is anyone in fashion has to have an underwear at some point, it's like the sign that you've arrived. Kind of like how it seems that ever celebrity and their mother has to launch a fragrance line. Anyway, top American fashion designer Michael Kors, known mostly for his women's handbags, shoes, and of course his prominent role as judge on Project Runway, is now branching into the men's underwear world. The collection is very basic and consists of briefs, boxer briefs, and boxer shorts as well as an assortment of different undershirts. All the styles come in three colors: black, white, and powder blue. Nothing very original or outside the box. It seems that Kors is aiming to get in with the other department store staples like Calvin Klein, Hilfiger, and more recently 2(x)ist. The question is will he be able to do it? His new collection is very basic and far from innovative in my opinion. I feel that the type of man he's marketing towards won't be so willing to branch out and try a new brand -- the guy who I think would buy his brand is certainly not an underwear connoisseur and thus probably has his brand that he sticks with year after year. If I was in the market for basic underwear I certainly would branch out and try a brand new brand. It will be interesting to see how Michael Kors fares against more established brands in the same category like Calvin Klein. The line also comes in two and three packs, which gives you an idea of the target market. The new collection is available for pre-order or Kors website for between $26 - $34. It should be available in department stores like Nordstrom, Macy's and Bloomingdale's soon. Below is a teaser commercial for the new line.

M-N Reviewed

Earlier this year I introduced you to a new brand called M-N hailing from Mauritius. Today I'd like to take the opportunity to review one of the products from the AZURE range, specifically their trunks. For the purpose of this review I tried the Cherub trunk in blue.

Starting with the fit, it is rather unique. It is billed as a trunk, but the legs are not quite as long as standard trunks are. In fact, when I was putting these on today for review I was debating whether they were technically trunks or briefs - the fit is somewhere in between. From the front, the legs angle up a bit from the pouch as would briefs. But from the back it is clear that these are trunks and not briefs as the fabric is cut more straight across as opposed to the more curved shape of briefs. The rise is what I would bill as low-rise, but it is a nice comfortable low-rise that gives you the confidence that everything will stay put all day long.

Moving on to comfort, the cotton elastane blend makes for a very soft fabric. The pouch has enough room that you don't feel squashed. But on the inside around the pouch there is an elastic band of the same material as the legbands that holds everything in place. Now this is not like a enhancing strap or sling, it is completely attached to the interior of the pouch. Rather it is there to ensure that the sides of the pouch stay tight and close to your body so that all the goods stay in place, while still allowing for a roomy pouch that is comfortable. I think this is a really smart way of putting together a pouch, there is nothing artificial looking or feeling about it, it's just smart sewing/pattern making. The waistband is thin and sits close to the body. Made of soft elastic, I have no complaints about the waistband or legbands. They all do their jobs well.

The style of this range is where it's really at. As I explained in my brand profile, the AZURE range is the "fun range" of M-N's underwear. It comes in a number of fun prints/patterns and colors. Just sticking to the cherub trunks that I tried, I really like the logo waistband with a metallic silver logo against a black background - it really makes for a classy and distinguished look above jeans. The pattern is screen printed black silhouettes against a blue background making for a very crisp look. You may ask why these are called cherub trunks, well there is a large cherub printed across the back. And because the back has no seams, it makes for a perfect canvas for such a print. The style of these undies makes them very unique, they aren't like anything anyone else is offering on the market.

These trunks are very well made. I actually have a number of pairs, and all of them show great attention to detail both in the design process and in the manufacturing process. There are no loose seams or threads. Everything is done perfectly. The high quality is sure to last for a very long time. Also, the fabric is printed in a special process that does not fade or get funky after washing, it is a part of the fabric. At £32 (~$50 USD) they're rather expensive. But for something so well made and so unique I think they're worth the investment for a pair or two.

With the Season 3 premiere of popular TV show Glee tonight, I thought it appropriate to highlight some of the undies seen on some of the Glee guys throughout last season. Above Artie and Finn can be seen wearing basic white boxer shorts while Mike wears tight, but rather ill-fitting grey boxerbriefs. Although to be fair, this is the way Zizes imagines her audience in undies, so it may not be exactly what they're wearing. Like Wearing a Second Skin... Croota Review

Croota is yet another new men's underwear brand hailing from down under... it seems lots of undies are coming from Australia these days. They really know how to make them. Today I'm going to be reviewing the Croota Second Skin Bikini, which is really a thong.

The fit of these undies is difficult to describe. On first inspection they seem to be a thong, but they're not quite as stringy as a thong. There's a little more coverage to them. In fact, Croota bills them as a legless t-back bikini. But that's not very descriptive either. Basically the back triangle is a little larger than what you normally get with thongs, thus making the strap that goes between your legs a little thicker and less likely to wedge itself up your ass in uncomfortable ways. But there is no coverage on the sides other than the waistband. The entire contraption is low-rise with a fairly small-sized pouch.

As far as comfort goes, as I previously mentioned the pouch is on the small side. It does a good job of holding things when everything is in its normal state, but otherwise forget it. However, I honestly didn't have too many problems with this once I got them on. I really enjoy the widened t-back, because my biggest complaint with thongs in general is that I occasionally need to pull them down as they ride up through the day. But the wider back seems to hold this bikini/thong in place better and I only found myself having to adjust once or twice during the day. One judge of comfortable underwear is if you notice you're wearing it, and with these I barely even realized I was wearing anything during the day they were so light and comfortable. It was like being naked, or wearing a second skin.

The style says sexy, but doesn't scream sexy like many other skimpy undies. It is sexy, but it doesn't take itself so seriously - it's a little fun. I really enjoy the printed waistband in lieu of a logo waistband. The pair I tried had a leopard print, but they also come in plaid and striped prints. I really enjoy the flair that Croota put into these undies.

As far as the quality goes, the fabric is excellent and washes quite well with no fading or pilling on the body or waistband. Depending on where you live you can get them from Croota for $17.90 or from Croota.us (the official US authorized retailer) for $17.90 as well. While they're not very much fabric for the price, they are well made and make for great summer wear. They are also a great alternative to your standard thong.

Have you heard of Sly yet? We have. We discovered Sly a few months back when founder Dan Murray shot us an email. And I must say, we've fallen in love with the brand (and his accent).

At just 20 years of age, Australian Dan Murray founded Sly (he founded it 3 years ago when he was 17). DT Clothes - A Review

So it's been a bit since I've really had a chance to sit down and put some quality time into the site. I do apologize, unfortunately all my exciting life opportunities of late have gotten in the way of my blogging. I would like to say that I will be better, but I honestly don't know if that will be the case. But I'll do my best. Today I'd like to share with you a little review that is long overdue. So I'm just going to go right into it with a review of DT Clothes brand low-rise briefs.

Now I had the chance to try this style in a couple different prints, unfortunately the prints that I tried are no longer available online. So I just choose some prints that I like from the site to illustrate this review.

Starting with the fit, as the style suggests these briefs are low-rise. Now there are of course degrees of low-rise, and I would describe these as a comfortable low-rise. These briefs definitely have minimal coverage, but not so much so that they are uncomfortable to wear. The back completely covers your ass and the goods in the front are also kept under control. The sides are high rise, with not much more than an inch of fabric (in addition to the waistband) at the smallest point. This makes for a very minimal appearance. They are well fitted throughout, keeping you snug but not too snug.

As for the comfort. They are made of 95% cotton with 5% lycra. This makes for a very comfy feel that will also hold its shape. The pouch is double-lined for extra comfort and support. Despite the minimal fit, these briefs stay in place very well and thus are comfortable to wear the entire day. The full coverage back is also a welcome feature of these low-rise undies. This waistband is thin and soft and doesn't cut. The minimal fit/coverage is also perfect for hot, summer days.

Now as far as the style goes, these things come in a fantastic array of prints and colors. They are fun and funky as well as fashionable. The fit is very stylish and the fabrics are unique and stylish. These are some of my favorite undies to wear just because they are so fun and unique. One of my favorite parts is that many of the styles implement brightly colored waistbands with matching colored legbands. But if color is not your thing, this style is also made in plain black and plain white (listed under the DT Black collection). So there really is something for everyone.

These undies are well made and at $33 AUD ($34 USD) they're a little pricey, but worth the investment. Like I said, they're unique and colorful and they are comfy and last well. I've washed these things numerous times and they still fit great and the print hasn't faded. They're worth the investment for a unique pair of undies that no one else will have.

Athlete Jock - A New Classic

Over the past couple of years a new style has been born that is a hybrid of jockstrap and brief, I've been calling it the jockstrap brief. It is basically a jockstrap but with the straps made of the same, continuous brief fabric. Baskit started this trend with their ribbed jockbrief. Timoteo took it last year and remade it with their sport collection. And now Timoteo is doing it again and reworking their own style and, as they phrase it, updating a classic. This new Athlete Jock, as they're calling it, is available in a number of brief colors such as turquoise and fuchsia as well as yellow and camouflage.

I still haven't had the chance to try this style. But the new title for the style, athlete jock, leads me to believe that they are really pushing for these to become sports underwear. Chord Overstreet Drops Trou on Ellen

Low-rise Excites (Xzytes) - A Review

I've mentioned Xzytes a couple times in the past as being a great place to get cheap, fun underwear. While today I want to review one of their own styles, their low-rise boxerbrief.

As far as the fit of this thing goes, it's decidedly very skimpy - no question about it. You are definitely going to want to size up on these (if you normally wear a small get a medium) because they are super small and tight. I normally wear a small and I can barely fit all my junk into the medium. Consult their size chart for information, although I'm a 28 inch waist and I'm pretty sure that this medium would not fit someone with a 33 inch waist. So size accordingly. These undies are super small and low-rise, they are not nearly large enough to be considered a boxerbrief. They barely cover my ass-crack and some of my cheeks hang out the bottom. Guys with bubble butts beware, these are not going to cover you in the least. They also have a tendency to conform to your body and the center seam in the back rides right up your butt. The front is super tiny with barely any extra room in the pouch - try not to get hard because there's no room. The cut is super sexy and when they say super-low-rise, they mean it.

As far as the comfort of these things goes it's a little varied. The nylon/lycra blend is surprisingly smooth and not itchy as you might expect. It is very light-weight and quick-drying - perfect for a hot summer day or a hot night in the club. The fit, however, hinders the comfort. While I feel adequately supported, at times I almost feel squashed - especially when you first put these things on. The center seam, however, often makes it feel like you're wearing a thong even though you're not. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's worth pointing out. After a little getting used to them though they feel a little better. But I find myself wanting to pull them up to cover my crack. But if you pull them up your cheeks hang out, and when you pull them down your crack hangs out. So it's hard to win. But if that's what you're going for these are perfect for you.

That being said, the style of these SCREAMS go-go boy and would be the perfect skimpy pair to wear in the club. They're really about showing off, but without looking like you're trying too hard. Their skimpy coverage looks sexy, but not vulgar. And the subtle sheen of the fabric would look great under the disco ball. Bring on the dancing! But for everyday wear, these probably aren't the thing.

These undies are currently on sale at Xzytes for only $10 (originally $20). That's definitely a steal - you can get two for the price of one! The quality of these is quite exceptional and will certainly hold up to a lot of bumping and grinding.

FIT -- 8 (out of 10) - Super skimpy, not really a boxerbrief Does not cover it all at once - you have to choose between your crack and your cheeks. Runs small - make sure to size-up from your normal size.

COMFORT -- 7 (out of 10) - Fabric is surprisingly soft. Don't feel covered due to the fit. Requires adjusting. No room to grow.
STYLE -- 5 (out of 10) as underwear; 9 (out of 10) as clubwear - Sexy and hot. Feels more like clubwear than underwear though.
QUALITY -- 9 (out of 10) - Well made. Holds up well.
VALUE -- 10 (out of 10) - Great deal for $10. Great for summer fun.

C-In2 Relaunched + New "Hand Me Down" Collection

You may have noticed that popular C-In2 underwear brand was nowhere to be found for a while. But now they're back and better than ever with their relaunch. They are re-making some of their most popular collections like Pop Colors and Kinetic while at the same time they are creating some new ones as well like the new Hand Me Down collection that just launched. The C-In2 Hand Me Down collection is C-In2's vintage collection in collegiate colors. Obviously Low-Rise - A Review

We've discussed Obviously numerous times in the past. Just as a quick refresher, Obviously is an Australian brand that specializes in making "anatomically correct" underwear for men. The idea is that there is a separate pouch that allows your junk to hang as it naturally would. They promise no sticking, squashing, readjusting, chaffing, or sweating. I've reviewed their Sinuous line bikini brief in the past, today I'm going to review their low-rise brief which is available in a lot of different colors and in all their collections.

The fit of this brief is actually quite skimpy, although upon first glance it appears that you are well covered. In reality, the sides are quite tiny with less than an inch of fabric at the smallest point. However, this is augmented by a rather large waistband, so the overall visual impression is that more is covered. These briefs fit true to size and are very form fitting across the sides, butt, and perineum. The low-rise of these briefs just barely covers the assets. As I have pointed out in my previous review, the pouch seems a little unnecessarily large at times and doesn't really hold your member in place but rather allows it to flop around - but that is afterall the point of these. I personally find this to be a little annoying at times. This is especially true when wearing tighter fitting pants as the underwear lets your member hang freely in the front, thus tight pants tend to squeeze things awkwardly up front. As was the case with my previous Obviously experience, you are not completely hanging free and the pouch does allow a certain amount of support.

Just like all Obviously products, these are made from an oh-so-soft and smooth modal and lycra blend. The fabric is super soft and sensuous against the skin. It is also thin and feels almost weightless, a perfect choice for hot summer days. The tag is printed onto the inside for additional comfort. My only complaint comfort-wise is there is a seam at the bottom of the pouch across the perineum area. This seam I found is too far forward on these briefs and tended to brush up against my balls in an uncomfortable manner that required an occasional readjustment. While this is not a deal breaker, I found myself adjusting these undies way more than I would like. Part of this, however, has to do with the pants you wear them with and how much you make the pouch expand to handle your manhood throughout the course of the day.

As for the style of these things, these briefs are sizzling... sssssss.... They're almost too hot to handle. As I said, they are super skimpy. The back is full coverage, but the sides are practically non-existent. These come in a fun array of colors that are bright and playful as well as more subdued colors for the more reserved individual. I really love the way the logo waistband is set with the type not quite fitting on the band.

As with all Obviously underwear, these will set you back a pretty penny or two, but they are very good quality and well made. These will last you a good time. And with summer coming up, something this light-weight is perfect for keeping you covered and comfortable during the hot, sticky, summer days ahead. I went on a huge shopping spree yesterday when I got back to school... I was in the mood to get some new undies. When I shop for undies I usually have a goal. The goal for me yesterday was to get some jockstraps. The jock that I already own is this 2(x)ist All Star jock in white. I really love the feel of jocks and think they will be great for the summer! Let me tell you I ended up ordering a ton of undies!

Now we all get those emails from the different underwear stores with different sales they are having. I feel like I get at least 2 emails from different places a day. It is so tempting to just keep buying undies every time you get an email. But the rule I follow is always wait till the item you want is on sale or get it if it is under $15.

In total I ended up getting 14 pairs of underwear for $94 including all the shipping. I looked at different stores and compared all their sales and got the best price! I ordered from a total of four stores and can't wait for everything to come! This is my last big order of stuff for the summer when I'm at home. So with a haul of 5 briefs, 1 sports brief, 3 trunks, 5 jocks I think I am all set for a few months!! Just remember, underwear sites have sales all the time, make sure you pounce on the ones that will get you the most undies for you buck!!

Being a college student I know I am in the minority when I wear briefs. Most guys in college wear boxers or boxer briefs. I like when I wear briefs because it makes me feel so much more cute. Something about being different than everyone else makes it exciting. With warmer weather on the horizon, wearing the least amount of fabric also won't do any harm.

My favorite briefs are these 2(x)ist contrast fashion no show briefs. They have an amazing blue color that any guy would love! It is bright enough to brighten up your day. The comfort factor of these are off the charts. If I could, I would wear these briefs every day. They fit comfortably under jeans and then when you are home, they are great to lounge around in. When I go to bed I love to have everything in it's place so to speak. With these I can fall fast asleep in total comfort. It is safe to say I really love these briefs!

I have just started to get into briefs again and I plan on getting many more! At the moment 2(x)ist is my favorite brand, but who knows what great undies I will find next?

Let's Get Kinky with Lick - A Profile and Review

So I briefly mentioned Lick brand underwear in passing in my holiday gift guide. Today I'd like to tell you a bit more about the brand and review their jockstrap. Lick brand has four lines: Leisure, Individual, Classic, and Kinky. When put together, the first letters of each line spell Lick, which I find very clever. They also implement this into the waistband of their undies by highlighting the letter of the collection that the particular pair comes from (so on the Kinky collection undies the 'k' is highlighted on the waistband). Lick's big claim to fame is that they have a new patented pouch design that claims to "cradle" your extremities just right. While many brands claim this, you will see below that this actually may be true. So without further ado, let me tell you about my thoughts on their "Kinky" collection jockstrap. I tried it in pink but it also comes in black and white.

So what's there to say about the fit of a jockstrap. It's just a waistband and pouch with two elastic bands across your ass, right? Well not entirely. Surprisingly there's actually quite a number of different ways to cut a jockstrap, and Lick has done it right. They've implemented a relatively large pouch into their jockstrap. I've found that most fashion jocks have ridiculously small pouches that are impossible to stay in, especially when your junk gets excited. But with Lick this is not the case. They've incorporated a substantially sized pouch that is roomy enough to hold any man's junk in place (flaccid or otherwise). But it is not so big that it looks ridiculous. Then they have put thin, colored straps across the back. Now I don't have the largest ass in the world, so often with jockstraps I find that the straps are too long to be tight against my butt, thus making the entire pouch too loose. But these straps are a good length for me, but will also stretch comfortably to accommodate larger assets.

Now these are definitely what I would call fashion jocks, I wouldn't recommend you wear them for protection in sports. But they do their job and hold everything in place nicely and they're awfully comfy with their 95% cotton/5% Spandex blend. The straps do not cut into your butt as is sometimes the case with jocks. The large pouch also is great because it stays in place and doesn't make your junk feel squashed.

This fashion jock truly has style. I tried it in pink which has a lot of style. The black and the white are much more basic. The waistband is white on all the colors, so it makes for a nice contrast on the pink and black pair. The straps, however, match the rest of the jock. The waistband is wider than many, but not too wide. Overall, they have a very fun, almost retro feel to them. The pink is quite bright and a little out there, so you can't be shy about wearing them. But then again, wearing fashion jocks in general requires you to be a little out there.

These are well made and hold up good to multiple washes. The color is also as bright and vibrant as ever with no signs of fading. At £12 a pop (about $20 USD), these are moderately priced. They're maybe a little over-priced for something so basic. But you will be hard-pressed to find this degree of comfort in another fashion jock.

Overall, I give the Lick "Kinky" Jockstrap a total score of 9 based on the following criteria:

FIT -- 10 (out of 10) - Not your average jock. Ample room in the pouch to accommodate everything.

COMFORT -- 10 (out of 10) - No cutting. Large pouch makes for comfy, all-day wear.

STYLE -- 9 (out of 10) - Basic with a little retro flair. But they are jocks so they're out there.

QUALITY -- 9 (out of 10) - Well made, bright colors do not fade.

VALUE -- 8 (out of 10) - Moderately priced, but hard to find an equally comfortable fashion jock.

New Brand: M-N Underwear

M-N is brand new company on the men's underwear scene, based in Mauritius the brand is heavily influenced by the mix of cultures, colors, and histories that exist there - there are African, Indian, and European influences on the island. The brand is currently being sold in Mauritius, South Africa, Japan, UK, and soon to be sold under license in the US. If you are in the US you of course can order online now through their website. The brand is owned and designed by Richard Bennett, who is from the UK and has had many years of fashion design experience. The overall look of the brand is bold, mixing at least two contrasting colors on every pair.

There are three main lines, the ZOM range which is simple and basic at an accessible price-point. This range is young and stylish and is made from a cotton/elastane blend. Then there is the AZURE range which is the mid-priced range. This is also made of cotton/elastane and is what I would call the fun range of the three. It incorporates lots of fun prints and patterns for a very bold, in your face look. It comes in tight boxers (read boxerbriefs), trunks, and briefs. And finally there's the G-SPORT range. This is the more athletic range with high contrast, simple color-blocked designs. The fabric on this range is made from bamboo and is designed to be extra supportive for sports. This range comes in tight boxers, briefs, and strings (read thongs).

I really love this brand and have had the chance to try a couple pairs. So far I'm really enjoying them, I have to say the G-SPORT range has some of the softest waistbands that I have ever felt. The bold colors and designs look very fashion-forward and with it. People will definitely turn for a second look when you're wearing M-N.

Wearing my Grundies... A Review

We've spoken a couple times on here about an up-and-coming Australian brand called Grundies. Today I want to give you my opinions on one of their most prevalent and popular cuts - the fit short (read "trunk"). So without further ado, I bring you today's review.

For the purpose of today's review, I tried the Tattoo Fit Short in blue. I really like the fit of these trunks, this is one of my favorite fits to wear period (regardless of brand). They give you nice full coverage while still being revealing and hip. You don't have to worry about anything falling out or being on display but they're still small and tight enough to subtly show off your physique. The legs on these trunks are just about even with the bottom of the pouch and the waistband rises to about where your low-rise jeans would sit. So they're not a super low-rise but they're not up to your navel either.

These things are comfortable for all day wear. As is common in a lot of undies, the tag is screen-printed onto the back so there's no itching to worry about. The pouch is made of a single piece of fabric (no seams down the middle, which is often the case). It isn't quite what I would call a contoured pouch, but it gives you enough room to hang in. If you look at the cut of the design, the pouch is actually a sort of filled-in U-shape that extends down to your perineum area. Made of 90% cotton and 10% elastane (to hold its shape), this fabric hugs the body snugly but not too tight. I feel like I can breathe in these. The legbands are simply the fabric rolled over a couple times, so there is no uncomfortable pinching. The logo waistband is not only stylish but quite soft on both sides. It stays in place but doesn't cut in. The back is seamless for a nice smooth look.

While the cut of these is quite basic, there is still some stylish flair. The blue color against the black waistband really pops. On one leg (on this particular pair) is screen printed the "Grundies" logo and then a few stars are printed on the other leg to mimic the Australian flag. These are nice touches that make these undies (or should I say Grundies) stand out. Also, as their signature on all their undies, Grundies puts a small red tag with their logo on the left leg attached to the bottom of the waistband. I think this is a nice designer touch that shows the care and attention to detail that this company has.

These undies are pretty well made, I'd say. I've worn them numerous times (keep meaning to do this review) and have washed them just as many and they've held up well. The elastane helps them to keep their shape after each wash. And just by glancing over them, you can tell they are made well: the waistband is held on by at least three rows of stitching. The fabric, does, however fade a little after a few washes. But that is to be expected with such a bright blue. The screen printing also cracks a little bit, but that is to be expected on fabric that is constantly stretching and moving. Other than that, these undies hold up fantastically. They are currently on special for $19.95 (normally $24.95). I would say for the style in combination with the comfort and great fit these are worth it. Give Grundies a try.

FIT -- 9 (out of 10) - Modest trunk. Covers just enough but still shows off physique.

COMFORT -- 9 (out of 10) - Good all day wear. Tagless, no cutting on elastic.

STYLE -- 9 (out of 10) - Basic with some Aussie flair

QUALITY -- 8 (out of 10) - Excellent attention to detail. Will fade a bit though.

VALUE -- 9 (out of 10) - Good bang for you buck.

I've discussed Equmen a number of times before. They are a brand of pricey, performance underwear. I've reviewed their briefs, and I've gotta say they are some of my favorites. Hey fellow underwear lovers!!! My name is Matty and I would love to tell you about my obsession with undies! It all started in the locker room in high school. Back then I wore tighty whities and I would be the first one in there to change. But funny thing was, I was always the last one to leave that locker room. I loved looking around at all the undies that the other boys had on. I wanted a choice of colors in the mornings, not just my white undies. Once I finally started working and having money, my underwear obsession began!

I first started getting American Eagle trunks since the other boys would wear those. I got so many fun colors and I loved the simple fit of them. Then my freshman year of college and I finally lived away from home. I could buy all the undies I wanted online! I started getting Ausssiebum, Andrew Christian, C-in2, 2(x)ist and so many others. I am now in my sophomore year in college. I am only 20 and I already have a giant drawer filled with underwear!

Trunks, briefs and jocks are all I have so far. As the year goes on I plan on trying all different kinds of undies. I love to show off my undies every day on twitter. Underwear of the Month at MUS: CK One + Mini-Review

Men's Underwear Store has what they call the Underwear of the Month program. The program works like this, basically each month, MUS will select and feature a specific brand and style of undies that they think consumers will enjoy and should know about. These selections also aim to bring attention to some of the lesser known or less talked about styles of mens underwear. The goal is to let men know about the many options they have when shopping for underwear and to make them feel comfortable and at their best. This month's selection is the CK One low-rise trunk. The CK One collection is a brand new collection from Calvin Klein. The trunkscome in white, slate (gray), and black and retail for $24. There is also a brief style if that's more your thing. They are made of super soft microfiber and designed to complement the CK brand line of jeans and fragrances. I can't quite say whether it does that or not, but what I can tell you is I got the opportunity to try these trunks out and they are surprisingly soft and comfy. CK is often a mixed bag when it comes to undies, sometimes they really hit it and sometimes they miss. But with the One collection they've hit the mark spot on. The fabric has a smooth, silky feeling and is super light and airy. They would be perfect to wear under your summer shorts on a hot day or to the gym to workout. They keep you covered and supported but not too hot and sweaty. Also, the cut of these is very minimal. At a glance it appears to be a fairly normal cut, but upon closer inspection you realize that there isn't much coverage. This is fine though and adds to the overall lightness of the trunk. The rise is very low and the legs are quite short. There is very little fabric across the perineum. I personally find the minimal coverage of these trunks quite sexy and part of their appeal. I wish I had one in every color! So for $24 bucks these could be a great new addition to your collection. In my mini-review I give these 4/5.

Summer Dreaming with Timoteo

It may be cold here in Lexington once again, but I am still ready for swimsuit season to get here. It may be that I've seen too many scarves, gloves, boots, and Carhartt jackets, but I am in love with so many of the new swimsuits this year. Timoteo is just as ready for the summer as I am. Colin Firth's Oscar gets some Undies

As I'm sure you're all well aware by now, Colin Firth just won the Academy Award for Best Actor this last Sunday for his role in "The King's Speech". And I must say, he is very deserving of the award. What you might not know is that prior to the Oscars, Firth made an appearance on the Ellen show where she presented him with a pair of customized tuxedo undies for him to wear to the special occasion. It is unknown whether he actually wore them to the Oscars or not. But afterward, he stopped by Ellen's studio to show her his Oscar and thank her for the undies. He also showed her a tiny replica pair of the undies she gave him that he then put on his Oscar. Check out the underwear hilarity in the video (above).

Ristefsky Macheda - A New Brand Reviewed

Ristefsky Macheda is a relatively new brand hailing from Australia. You may remember that I put them on my holiday buying guide. It gets its name from its two designers: Stephen Ristefsky and Vincent Macheda. Both Ristefsky and Macheda have European backgrounds, but have fully embraced the Australian lifestyle making for a unique feel to the brand. RM entered onto the underwear scene last year sometime, but it wasn't until this past holiday season that they really got going. They make great products and their undies are quickly becoming some of my favorite go-to pairs. Today I want to review one of my favorites, the RM Retro Low Rise Brief.

As far as the fit of these go. They're what I would call a modest low-rise. They do sit lower than your standard full-rise briefs, but they aren't quite as skimpy as your average low-rise brief. They're a nice compromise between the full and low rises, a sort of in-between brief if you will. The waistband is low like low-rise, but the sides and back have more coverage like a full-rise. The back fits smoothly over your butt making for a nice, streamlined fit. The front pouch is a little loose to allow for movement and comfort.

Speaking of comfort, these are some of the comfiest briefs I've tried in a long time. Like I already said, these have definitely become some of my go-to briefs. The soft 95% cotton/5% elastane blend makes for great all-day comfort. You can really wear these things anywhere. So no matter what your day has in store, these things will keep you covered and comfy. The waistband and leg bands are snug enough to make you feel secure, but not too tight to be restrictive.

These things are simple, but they have style. The body is a dark, heathered charcoal color. So even though they appear to be solid-colored in the picture, they are actually slightly mottled in shades of grey. The waistband is in a contrast white and black. And the ribbing around the pouch and legbands is in your choice of four colors: yellow, dark blue, red, or sky blue. I tried yellow. They are basic with a little retro fun to them. These things definitely have a little panache to them.

As for quality, these things are excellent. As I said, they are one of my current favorites so they get quite a bit of wear and tear. And they've held up excellently. As always with quality undies, wash them in cold water and line dry them and you should be fine. The waistband is triple-seamed, while the other important seams are double-seamed. So these things should hold up well for quite a while. At $25 a pair they are on the pricey side for something that is so plain. But as I said, they're super comfy and they're gonna hold up well. They're really great for anything. Buy them, you won't regret it.

Overall, I give the Ristefsky Macheda Retro Low Rise Brief a total score of 10 based on the following criteria:
FIT -- 10 (out of 10) - Modest low-rise; low-rise waist with full-rise coverage.
COMFORT -- 10 (out of 10) - Super soft fabric. Room to move.
STYLE -- 10 (out of 10) - Basic with some retro flair.
QUALITY -- 10 (out of 10) - Made well. Triple and double-seamed stitches.
VALUE -- 9 (out of 10) - Expensive but they'll last you.

Underwear Etiquette: Going Out or Bottoms Up!

My group of guy friends and I go out a lot, at some points I think we live for the weekends. One of the guys has named our group “The Glitter”, which pretty much defines the group. At last count we roll ten deep, and are well on our way to having a reality show on Logo—then when ratings are high enough we will jump-ship to Bravo. Think Real Housewives of Atlanta mixed with the A-List and a whole lot of Sex and the City thrown in for good measure. I am the self proclaimed Carrie Bradshaw of the group. (However the other nine may argue that—watch for their comments below) I love my guys to death; I would give them an organ if they ever needed it, excluding my liver, something about all the vodka tells me it probably wouldn’t be of much use. I digress; there is an actual point to this post. I am known for judging hard, that’s probably indicative of why I review underwear as a hobby, and I am judging them for their underwear. I suppose judging one of them for his addiction to Taco Bell at 3:00 am would be more appropriate, but I’d much rather judge their boxers. Now don’t get me wrong, all nine of them aren’t guilty of bad choices in the underwear drawer; several of them actually have taste that I am envious of. The other night one of them pulls me aside at the bar “I found your blog yesterday” at that point I just started stuttering. (In my mind I just kept thinking “please say Simplicity, please say Simplicity (which is my personal blog) don’t say M.U.B.”) He replies with “I ordered so many pairs of underwear today” BUSTED! (at this point I had only told one of “The Glitter” about this blog, and it wasn’t him.) So now that “The Glitter” knows about me being a contributor to M.U.B. it has me thinking about what, in my opinion, one should wear when going out. As a group of single twenty-somethings no one really ever knows who is still going to have their pants on by the end of the night, so a good pair of underwear is imperative. Over the past couple weeks, and over many glasses of vodka I have put together my list of tips, anecdotes, and comments on what underwear are good to be found in after the sun sets on a weekend night.

1) Skip the boxers. Period. End of Story. In my humble, and somewhat biased, opinion one should never wear boxers when drinking. Why, you may ask. My biggest reason is, well when you’re dancing (read grinding) you never know which direction your lil’ guy is gonna go, but I say things are only going up from here. So you need some support, or a lot of support. Wear something that is fitting to the body. Secondly boxers just aren’t sexy, personally seeing a guy in boxers is a huge turnoff. For me boxers are just downright uncomfortable to dance in, but for the love of God do not think I am giving you permission to go commando. UMan adds: I agree. One should really never wear boxers.
2) Wear dark colors. By wearing navy or black you minimize the appearance of sweat or spilled liquor on your undies. Every weekend you will find me religiously in a pair of black boxerbriefs. This rule goes hand in hand with number three.
3) Keep it simple. Patterns are fun, colors are great, and by no means should you ever wear anything boring.
4) Stay classy. You’re out, you’re meeting potential partners, friends, or dates, don’t scare them off by revealing the waistband of a jock strap or the string of a g-string when you “dip-it-low.” I personally am most comfortable taking my pants off in front of someone if I’m wearing a pair of boxerbriefs, but there is nothing wrong with a good pair of briefs. Just save the mesh, metallic, or studded undies for nights of sobriety. If you want to scare a potential partner off just strip down to a mesh thong or tuxedo patterned pair of boxers. Keep it classic and keep it classy and chances are it won’t be too hard to avoid going home alone at the end of the night. Look for a forthcoming post on these types of underwear… and exactly why the hell I have a box full of them.
5) Go for quality. Hanes and Fruit of the Looms were good and well when we were kids, heck they are what I wore until I turned 14, but we’re all adults here, so unless you’re working in a field or digging a ditch wear something of quality. If you’re dancing/getting blackout drunk there is a good chance your waistband is going to show at some point, so dress to impress.
6) Be original. No explanation needed.
7) This one is my bonus type… If you plan on getting black-out, take your own bedding, it makes spending the night on the bathroom floor a whole lot more comfortable.

This week I am absolutely and utterly obsessed with Gregg Homme. The level of sheer sexiness that envelopes each pair from this brand is beyond words. Soccer star turned underwear model David Beckham has decided not to return as Armani’s underwear front man. Instead he’s taking charge and getting his own underwear line with Armani. This makes sense since underwear sales have soared for the company since they signed Beckham to be their international ambassador of fashion. Plus he is married to another Armani underwear notable former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham. No doubt she has had a hand in the rise of her husband's success within the fashion industry. Connections are very important. Of course that’s not to say David doesn’t have what it takes on his own, let’s face it the man is gorgeous and he has talent. Beckham started playing soccer professionally when he was only 17 and through his time in the game has offered his skills to a variety of teams in as many countries. He now plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy and is a huge power behind popularizing the sport in America, the last country to embrace the sport apparently. Beckham has had a similar effect in the fashion industry. It was a long held belief that a man who made fashion and looking good a priority in his life had to be gay. Beckham was a key player in the coining of the phrase “metrosexual” meaning a straight man who took the time and energy to look good. Men took notice and thought David Beckham is an athlete, and a good one at that, with a hot wife and a lot of money so if he looks like that maybe I should too. David Beckham has been a godsend for all men!

Now he’s taking it to the next level. And hopefully he will still be the eye candy in the trunks he puts out, but either way I am sure he will succeed. We don’t know yet what design this underwear line is going to take but it will probably be along the lines of Armani’s collections that come out now. And knowing the Beckham style they will most likely be quite manly and have a sleek style all Metro Men will want. Beckham brought style to men around the world who were lacking it, and now he’s going to make sure they recognize this means their underwear too. So be on the lookout because soon we all can have David in our pants!

New Style from boyRio: Jockstrap Brief

Today I was browsing around and I happened across a brand new style of underwear from boyRio. It's called the jockstrap brief, and it's pretty much just that. Basically, instead of having the standard jockstrap pouch in front, the jockstrap brief looks like a brief from the front but a jockstrap in the back. It comes in blue, black, and white and retails for $27. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but I think it's definitely worth checking out. What are your thoughts on this new style?

HELP! My Underwear is Boring

So, I’ve been away from the world of underwear for a while, which has led to my underwear collection becoming pretty worn out and boring. It has gotten so bad that in an effort to have enough underwear to make it through the week I have even resorted to wearing Fruit of the Looms. I am embarrassed to even admit that. Now that I am back in this world of underwear I am super excited to start buying some new undies. As I rebuild my collection I ask for your help. Since most of the pairs I buy will be used for future reviews and photos I need to know what you’re into and what brands and styles you would like to know more about. I am up for wearing anything (excluding boxers) so have no fear and suggest away. In the mean time I ask that you don’t judge me in my Fruit of the Looms to harshly.
