What will you wear for NYE?

Lots of thought goes into ringing in the new year as it is thought to set the tone for the year ahead. Everything from who you spend it with to what you wear is carefully curated. But what about your underwear? That's important too. Many cultures have different traditions about what color of undies to wear for ringing in the New Year. What they all have in common, don't wear black undies.

So what will you wear? My own personal tradition is to wear something new that I haven't worn before.

Whatever you wear we hope you have a happy, healthy and safe New Year. Good bye 2015 and hello 2016!

Tell us what you're gonna wear in the comments :)

Out With the Old, in With the New

Today has been a productive day at my house: I have put together a shelf to store my DVDs that have remained in packing boxes since I moved to my house in July; I have almost completely taken down and stored away all of my Christmas decorations; I have cleaned my house; and most importantly I have organized my underwear drawer!

Drawer before organization
For those of you who have been following my posts since I began my internship, you will remember what my underwear drawer looked like back in October. For those of you who either haven't been following my posts or for those of you who can't remember what it  looked like, here is the picture that I took of it for your viewing pleasure. If you find yourself struggling to see an organizational pattern, don't fret. At this point, my underwear drawer organizational system was as follows: in the back left of the drawer are (I'm ashamed to say) the cheap Hanes/Fruit of the Loom briefs and boxer briefs; next to them, in the back right of the drawer, are the nicer, more desirable trunks; in the front left are the thongs, jocks, and bikinis; and lastly, in the front right, are the nicer briefs and some more trunks. While the system worked for me, I was still not completely happy with it. Especially after seeing how nice UMan's drawers are arranged, I began to question my system.  (For those of you who haven't seen his drawer, it's impressive!) Also, U<an continued to harp on the ridiculous amount of Hanes/Fruit of the Looms in the collection.

Undies to throw out.
And that leads me to today. I've finally parted with (most of) those dreaded Hanes/Fruit of the Looms and am proud to show you my bag of them that I'm gladly parting with. There are approximately 20 pairs of briefs and boxer briefs in this bag. I was fully prepared to throw them away, until UMan suggested I try to sell them on Naughty Bids. So, for all of you who would like a piece of the Georgia Dude collection, let me know and I'll be sure to list them on there for you ;-). (My apologies for that shameless plug. But hey, I'm a recent graduate with an underwear obsession and credit cards and student loans to pay off. Every little bit helps!)

Over the holidays, I spent a majority of my time at my parents' house. That's right, a 20-something male spent his time off at his parents' house. (Obviously I'm single and have nothing going on in my life). During that time, I made several trips to Wal-Mart (the only form of entertainment in a small Georgia town). Ever the organizer (mixed with obsessive-compulsive tendencies), I ventured back to the home/office organizers section.  And that led me to the canvas boxes that have become such a popular tool in home organizing.  For only $1.97 a piece, I couldn't complain and knew I'd find a good use for them. Little did I know how good of a use I would find for them. In my time of unpacking from my visit home and cleaning the house of the Christmas decorations, I realized that the canvas boxes would fit perfectly in my dresser drawers, which led me to cleaning out and going through my clothes, especially the undies.

Drawer after organization
So there you have it. I used 5 canvas totes for the underwear drawer (and 2 for my ties drawer and 1 for my dress socks and belts - as I said, very useful).  I have dedicated a canvas box for each style of underwear in my collection:  briefs; trunks; bikinis; thongs/jockstraps; and those few remaining Hanes that will only be used for camping and other outdoors activities where I would be concerned with ruining a good pair of undies. Who knows if this system will stick, especially as the collection grows and the canvas totes are no longer enough to contain it (a day that I welcome with open... pants?)

I welcome any comments on my progress in my ongoing endeavor to have an impressive and brag-worthy collection and in my attempts at organization of one of my favorite things. And I hope that this post inspires some of you to clean out those drawers and get your life more organized. Happy 2013 everyone! Let's make this year one for the books!

What Will You Wear Tonight?

Although your New Years resolutions may not start until tomorrow next years future may lie in what underwear you put on tonight. As one year ends and another starts we fall back to time honored traditions such as fireworks, dropping electric balls and of course a midnight kiss. However there are some customs and superstitions you may want to keep in mind as you plan your evening, in particularly what underwear you choose to wear. It may effect your coming year and even your life!

For example in Italy it is customary to wear red underwear on New Years Eve as this is supposed to bring you good luck. I have heard this is also the custom in Turkey. And in the Philippines it is customary to wear clothes with circular patterns like polka dots because it is believed these patterns attract fortune and wealth for the following year, and although this isn’t applied directly to underwear it is applicable. In many Spanish speaking countries the wearing of yellow underwear on New Years Eve is supposed to encourage financial gain in the next year. This comes from the fact that yellow is closely related to gold in color. Like in Ecuador and Peru it is believed that wearing yellow underwear on New Years Eve will attract a positive energy for the next year. And in Mexico you are advised to wear red underwear if you want to fall in love the next year, yellow underwear if you want to make a lot of money, green if your goal is prosperity, pink if you’re looking to make more friends or improve existing friendships and white to create hope for better days ahead.

So what will you wear tonight? It seems the popular choices are red and yellow for love or money. It seems like that’s what it always comes down to. Can you wear orange and get both? I may have to give it a try. Whatever you don under your trousers tonight make sure it gives you the confidence you need to have a blast! Happy New Years Eve men, we thank you for all your support through 2010 and look forward to a great 2011 together filled with some amazing underwear.

New Year's Resolution

A while back I gave you tips on how to clear out your underwear drawer. Well now I'm going to give you some ideas on how to replenish it.
  • First, get quality underwear. It may be more expensive, but it will last you longer.
  • Second, try something new. Whether it is a new brand or a new style. If you always buy FTL or Hanes, try something a little more expensive like Calvin Klein. If you always wear boxer shorts, try something a little tighter like boxer briefs. If you always wear boxer briefs, maybe go for trunks. Wear trunks? Go for some briefs. Wear briefs, why not try a different rise or cut (athletic, low-rise, etc.)? Always wear something skimpy? Maybe try something with a little more fabric.
  • Third, step out of your comfort zone a bit. Try it, you might like it. Try going to an all underwear store if there is one in your area. Try asking others for their underwear advice.
  • Fourth, set a budget. Whatever you can afford. You can spend lots on underwear or a little. But make sure you have a budget so you don't end up spending too much (which can be quite easy to do).
  • Fifth, be sure to change and wash your underwear often! Wear a fresh pair every day!
You are not the only one making a New Year's resolution. My resolution this year is to bring you more of what YOU want. So please take the poll in the sidebar so I know what you want more of!

New Year, New Underwear...

Happy New Year everyone! It's that time again, new year. Time to clean out the old and bring in the new. Time to make resolutions. This year, why not start out the new year right with some great new undies. First you should go through your underwear drawer, evaluate and eliminate. Here's some tips on how to purge:
  • If it is stained, ripped, torn, or worn looking, get rid of it! There is no point in holding on to things like this (undies are too hard to salvage, it's not worth it, get new ones).
  • If it no longer fits you for any reason (you are a different size, it shrunk, it stretched), get rid of it.
  • If you have no occasion to wear them, you thought they were cool but you never really have worn them, get rid of them.
  • They aren't comfy, get rid of them. duh!
If things are truly trash, throw them in the trash. But if they are nice, just not for you, try making some money selling them on eBay (especially if they're brand new and haven't been worn). Once you have systematically gone through everything and gotten rid of it, now you need to figure out what you need in order to replenish your drawer(s). If you spent a ton of time washing your undies last year and always wished you owned more, then now would be the time to stock up. You should at least have enough pairs to get you through a week or two (preferably you can afford to have more). You also should think about not buying all your underwear at once. If you really need it all right now, then go for it, but you might want to save some of your underwear budget for upcoming products in the new year (who knows what you might see that you just have to have). Now as for what you should buy, stay tuned for the next entry...

Do you have more tips for purging your drawer? Please tell us...
