Rounderwear Jam Beat Trunks Reviewed

Today I'd like to introduce you to a new brand with a little review. Rounderwear is a brand that has recently come to my attention. They have A LOT to offer in the way of underwear for men.  Just a brief perusal of their website reveals this. They have everything from boxers, to briefs, to jocks, to thongs and everything in between. They have a number of different collections to offer as well. There's the classic Rounderbum collection as well as the Jam collection (which has several collections within it). They also make underwear for Joe's Jeans and Seven7 Jeans.  Today I'm going to review the Jam Beat trunks.

The fit of these trunks is perfect.  It's exactly what you would expect from a trunk.  It's close-fitting and hugs the body but not too close.  The leg length is good.  It isn't too long but isn't so short that it's confused for a brief.  They fit very well through the crotch so that they not only don't ride up, there really isn't even any possibility for them to do so.  As far as comfort goes, these are great for all day wear.  The fabric is lightweight enough that they are great for summer wear despite being trunks, but they don't feel flimsy either. The fabric isn't super stretchy like lots of underwear, but it's just stretchy enough. This helps them maintain their shape and stay fitted to the body. The waistband is also super thin and sits nice and flush up against the body.  The contour pouch isn't too tight, but somehow manages to make my package look quite huge (if I do say so myself).

These really are a great looking pair of underwear.  While there isn't a lot going on, they're still incredibly stylish.  This is partially due to the super stylish, metallic waistband with funky print pattern. But believe it or not, just having an excellent fitting pair of underwear makes them look that much better.  It really helps these to stand out from the crowd.  Not only are they fresh and colorful looking, they also just look great because they fit great.

At $25 a pop that's a pretty typical price tag for designer undies these days.  And for something that looks and fits so damn well it's a good deal.  They also are good quality.  I honestly want them in every color they make and more!  Seriously that's my only complaint, that I don't have more and that they don't make more colors!

MY RATING:
Overall, I give the Jam Beat trunks a total score of 8 based on the following criteria:
FIT -- 10 (out of 10) - Superb fit adds to the overall look and style.
COMFORT -- 9 (out of 10) - Great lightweight fabric, perfect for summer wear or really any time. Wish the pouch was more supportive.
STYLE -- 8 (out of 10) - Very stylish waistband.  Wish they had more color options
QUALITY -- 8 (out of 10) - High quality.  A little bit of fading on the pouch elastic.
VALUE -- 8 (out of 10) - Average price.  Worth it.

Sauvage Retro Swimwear at International Jock

It's that time of year again.  The time to bust out the skimpy undies and sexy swimwear.  If you're like me, you like to get some new swimwear for the season to stay on top of the freshest cuts and colors.  I don't even really swim that much, but I like to strut my stuff in style at the beach or poolside.

Sauvage has launched a hot new line of swimwear for summer 2013, and it's available now at International Jock. The collection features longer shorts and shorter trunks in a range of tightness. So whatever you like, they have something to suit your style. The "in" trend for men's swimwear this summer is the fitted (but not skin-tight) swim trunk. Sauvage has a number of great options for this. I like the St. Tropex striped trunk and the St. Tropex checked trunk personally.

From paisley prints and plaids to solid colors and tribal designs, this new Sauvage Swimwear collection brings cool vintage style to men’s summer fashion. Made in San Diego, CA, the brand features premium quality swimsuits, including styles made with luxurious imported Italian fabric for an unrivaled look and feel.

Modeling the Sauvage collection is International Jock’s newest model, George Johnson of LA Models. George has been modeling for five months and exudes sex appeal and the natural talent of a seasoned pro. He began modeling with a trip to Hong Kong for Abercrombie and Fitch. Prior to that, he attended California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo where he studied kinesiology and was a receiver on the football team.

Brief Boys Review Stonemen New York Brief

Avg. $37 US

Brief Boys Mitchell and Patton review the Stonemen New York Brief, a unique handmade cut from Australia.

Patton: I wish I’d thought to wear these when I was actually in New York. I thought about it on the plane. Such a missed opportunity.

Mitchell: You keep saying New York. Are you afraid to tell people you went to New Jersey?

P: I took the train into New York whenever possible. Think about it: I could’ve mooned the Chrysler Building with the Chrysler Building.

M: How meta.

P: And – another nice thing, had I worn these in New York – they’re superb for lots of walking. They have a great cut that’s very supportive, never slip, and hug and hold everything in place.

M: Yes, those Aussies at Stonemen really know what they’re doing. To be honest, I was wary of another undergarment that is focused more on the pretty picture or pattern than the engineering, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well-made these are, all around. The pictures on their website make them look a little rubbery and formless, but they might just be over-Photoshopped. In person, you can tell that these are as light and flexible as any other cotton brief.

P: Agreed. It’s amazing how well these fit, especially for a low-rise brief. And they’re gorgeous. I remember when you used to wear Ginch-Gonch all the time. Cute underwear, but not the greatest quality. These are light-years ahead. The only thing I’d point out is that there’s no obvious pouch design, yet it’s weird how, once you put them on, this doesn’t seem to be a problem.

M: I expected to feel confined in these, too. There must be a magic spell at work, though, because they’re quite roomy.

P: I kind of want to buy all of them. Well, almost all – I probably don’t need the ones with hummingbirds on them. But the cityscapes, the sunsets, the nebula, stampeding stallions, ocean waves – I need all of them, for sure. It’s kind of like buying a cool t-shirt, except you need to be on a pretty intimate basis with your friends to show these off.

M: And most of those come with multiple waistband choices. Speaking of the waistband, by the way, another nice feature is that the seam rests on the hip, which is a nice change from briefs that tend to scratch at the base of your spine. So far, these haven’t bothered me.

P: Anybody who stocks up on them will also be helping the environment. For every pair they sell, Stonemen donates one Australian dollar to nonprofit conservation groups intent on preserving the oceanic ecosystem.

M: They’re big on that in Australia.

P: Almost as big as they are on awesome underwear.

M: You know, the more I think of them, the more I like them. Even the way the screen print continues all the way around, a full 360º like a panorama – they’re truly a work of art.

P: Well said.

 FIT /  Excellent
 COMFORT /  Excellent
 STYLE /  Excellent
 QUALITY /  Excellent

BOTTOM LINE /  Beautifully made in every way, and worth every Australian cent.

The Jockstrap

The Jockstrap
(jock·strap - noun - ˈjäkËŒstrap)
"A support or protection for the male genitals, worn esp. by athletes."

And also an exceedingly fucking sexy undergarment choice. (This added definition has not yet been approved by Merriam-Webster.)

The jockstrap has come a long way since its inception in 1874 by the Bike Company (who still manufactures jockstraps to this very day)! Originally designed for bicyclists and, as stated above, largely worn for athletic purposes, we have since reaped the benefits of the growing popularity and selection of the "fashion jockstrap."

Almost every major underwear designer now has a collection of jockstraps to choose from. And some exceptionally rad companies have been popping up in recent years putting extra emphasis on their jocks, such as the glory that is New York-based company Nasty Pig (which was also my nickname in college.... Okay, that's not true, but I wish it was).

I encourage every man, gay or straight, to own at least a few jockstraps. Straight men should be aware that there are a slew of women in the world who love seeing a man's ass in a jockstrap or a thong and will squeeze and slap it with more zeal than the gruffest rugby player after a victory.

Not only do they look hot, but they can also offer great support. They can bring that package you're undoubtedly so in love with front and center. I find that C-in2 and DT do the trick on this one magically well. And jockstraps can also offer a bit of lift to those cheeks of yours.

Jockstraps are also a wonderful choice to make during the hotter times of year. It obviously allows for a lot more breathability. Especially if you get one that's made of mesh. Andrew Christian's mesh air jock with "show-it technology" is one I highly recommend (also because of the aforementioned package amplification).

Now, among the gay community, the sexual lure of the jockstrap is a bit more obvious. It's like putting a spotlight on the goal. Now, that being said, I've encountered a number of people who associate "jockstrap" with "bottom." Not true. Watch more porn (yes, I just said that to gay men as if I needed to). Jockstraps are sexy no matter what your preferences are. I frequently wear them and I'll leave my preferences completely to your imagination. ... You're welcome.

I love wearing jocks. Yes, I'm wearing one right now as I write this. Wearing a jockstrap out and about (especially to work or on interviews, etc.) makes me feel sexy, confident, and is like my little secret that I carry with me throughout the day. Although, that secret tends to be let out after enough Stoli.

Some superior designers, in my ever-so-humble opinion, to turn to when purchasing jockstraps: C-in2, Andrew Christian, DT, ES Collection, Timoteo, and Nasty Pig, among others.

So there you have it. The powerful forces behind the Men's Underwear Blog asked me to rant about jockstraps and I have done so. Now do yourself a favor, go buy one, look at your ass and package in a mirror, and thank me later.

Smooches, gentlemen, and thanks for reading! Love ya!

NY Times Talks about Shift in Underwear Ads

Watch this video from the New York times about a shift in men's underwear advertising.  They discuss a shift from the hyper-sexualized male ideal to a more relatable guy in underwear advertisements.  Have you noticed this shift?  I think I've definitely seen a change in some underwear advertising recently.  The ads are more quarky and fun and not as much about the sex.  But then again look at Andrew Christian; the sex is definitely still out there.  The truth is and always has been, sex sells.  So sure maybe some companies are switching up underwear ads, but does it work?   What sells you (or doesn't sell you) on underwear when you're shopping?  Let's get the conversation rolling boys.

New Trend: Jock Boxers - Reviewed

Want to let your ass hang out this summer? Jockstraps have long been an option, but the sometimes tight straps and skimpy pouch don't always cut it. Enter the jock brief and jock boxer/trunk - you get the same bare feeling in the rear with a little more coverage up front.  Today I'm going to review the Addicted brand jock boxer.

These jock boxers come in a number of different stylish colors.  I tried the black one with a silver waistband - when your ass is hanging out you don't need to have lots of other things going on. They're rather simple in the front, they appear to be just a basic pair of trunks.  But then you turn around and BAM, surprise!  I really like the metallic silver waistband (which is only on the black pair). Although the graphic nature of the logo band is present on all the colors, which I really like.  The other pairs are more colorful and funky, with contrast piping.

As for the fit of these undies, in the front they fit very much like a regular pair of trunks.  Not too tight, but fitted.  The legs are not very long and line up with the bottom of the pouch. The pouch itself is a simple contour pouch; it's not very large but the fabric does stretch so it never feels too tight.  What I will say about the fit is the leg bands are made out of the same cotton fabric as the rest of the underwear, unlike a jockstrap's elastic straps.  This means that the pouch is not held as it would be in a jock, but the extra fabric on the sides is more than adequate to hold things in place.  If you do have larger balls and are sitting down, there is a potential for them to fall out the back a little bit; it depends on what you're wearing over the trunk and how tight it is.  Overall, I personally find these quite comfortable.  I barely even realized I'm wearing them. As with all ass-less underwear this is partly dependent on how comfortable/soft the jeans are that you wear.  The fabric of the actual underwear is also soft as is the waistband.  While not tagless like most underwear these days, the tag is placed on the right hip and goes unnoticed.

These hold up very well with repeated washings.  Definitely made out of quality materials with attention to all the details.  They are available from our friends at Vocla for $34, which is a reasonable price for a conversation piece like these.  Especially if you get them in a more colorful version.

MY RATING:
Overall, I give the Addicted Jock Boxers a total score of 8 based on the following criteria:

FIT -- 9 (out of 10) - Basic trunk fit with a surprise in the back.  Small pouch and potential for larger balls to fall out.
COMFORT -- 10 (out of 10) - Comfortable fabric and waistband.  Forgot I was wearing them.
STYLE -- 8 (out of 10) - Depends on the color you buy.  Looks like a pair of fairly basic trunks until you turn around.  Great graphic waistband.
QUALITY -- 9 (out of 10) - Good materials, held up well.
VALUE -- 8 (out of 10) - Reasonable price for something so unique, but also a little spendy.

Brief Boys Review Tu Felix Lederhosen Long Boxer Brief

Lederhosen Long Boxer Brief
Tu Felix
Avg. $39 US

Brief Boys Mitchell and Patton review the Lederhosen Long Boxer Brief from Tu Felix, which since 2008 has sought to “represent the pulse and tradition of Austria” with an eye toward contemporary culture.

Patton: These. Are. Cute.

Mitchell: Super cute. This is the first time I’ve ever wished that my underwear came with suspenders.

P: And a slice of schwarzwälder kirschtorte!

M: That’s German. Don’t you mean a sprig of edelweiss?

P: You ruin everything. Even The Sound of Music. But you get the idea.

M: Now I’m imagining Rolf wearing these lederhosen.

P: They’re seriously adorable. The little antlers on the waistband, the embroidery, and the dual access pouch in the front – you can’t not get all giggly.

M: I think the little pocket on the right leg is outstanding. Though it’s worth noting that this is only found on the longer version – the short boxer brief doesn’t have one.

P: They’re extremely comfortable, too. At least for several hours. Like all boxer briefs they start riding a little low on your thighs and need regular hoisting.

M: Really? I didn’t have any problems with that. I was pleasantly surprised by how much lift they have, actually.

P: I think that’s the pouch. I definitely felt at home in there, but not, you know, out on my own.

M: My only real complaint is the tag. I had them on for about ten minutes before I ran for the seam-ripper.

P: It’s unnecessarily scratchy, isn’t it? Like having a woodchip stuck in your waistband. The tag is definitely something our kleine Herren will want to cut out right away. The one thing that sort of bothered me – and that you can’t really fix – was that the back can make your butt look a little flat. But that’s not always the end of the world. Oh, and the pouch takes some getting used to – if you bend forward, anyone could peek right in. Keep an eye on that, I guess.

M: You mean both eyes?

P: The more the merrier.

M: Perhaps even the “eye toward contemporary culture?” Tu Felix has a large line of clothing – not only underwear – and they offer the Lederhosen Boxer Brief in a variety of colors (not just brown). Personally, I think they’ve succeeded in bringing Austrian traditions forward, yet still selling a wearable brief. If I ever get stripped searched at the airport in Vienna, this is what I plan to wear.

P: A planned strip search?

M: These will definitely make it into my regular rotation, is what I mean. I just wish there was a company making traditional Irish clothing this fun and sexy.

P: I don’t think kilt underwear would be all that functional. Or, you know, exist.

M: I’m not afraid to dream.

 FIT /  Good
 COMFORT /  Good
 STYLE /  Excellent
 QUALITY /  Excellent
 VALUE /  Good

BOTTOM LINE /  A unique, fun style that’s surprisingly comfortable and functional – the best way to work lederhosen into your wardrobe.

Get Inside Mario Lopez's Briefs - A Review

I'm sure that all of us have thought at some point in our lives "I wish I were Mario Lopez" or "I wish I looked like Mario Lopez." (Please, someone tell me that it's not just me who's wished these things!) I always recognized his good looks growing up watching "Saved by the Bell," but it wasn't until I was in college and saw the "are you staring at my ass" episode of "Nip/Tuck" that I began to fully appreciate the beauty of Mario Lopez. All of this rambling leads me to today's review of Mario Lopez's Rated M brand, specifically the Rated M Elementary Brief in black.

These briefs are quite comfortable. They are made out of a cotton blend (it includes modal and spandex). This blend works together to provide not only comfort but a nice, airy feel. The fabric helps to wick away sweat that might accumulate throughout the day, which is an added bonus.

The fit of these briefs is quite nice. They are some of the most well-fitting briefs that I have worn. They fit snug but not tight. They are a very classic brief in that they are very full in the rear and the sides; they are not a "low rise" style brief. These are the type of brief that I could wear to do most any activity - from desk work to gym time. They stay put throughout the day, so there is no need to worry about them bunching up or chafing/discomfort from unexpected shifting. The leg holes, a major downfall in a lot of briefs, keep their elasticity over time. It's also very nice to know that fabric wasn't spared to lessen the quality of the briefs - there is just enough fabric to cover what they need to cover without there being too much fabric to result in bunching up. These briefs help me to feign the confidence to say, in Lopez's words, "are you staring at my ass?" (Now, I don't think I have that great of an ass, but hey, a fella can dream right?)

As far as style goes, they are nothing that hasn't been done before. They are very simple and straight-forward with the only distinguishing factors being the logo printed along the waistband along with the slogan "For manful men and their very special guests." On this particular pair, the briefs are black and the logo, etc. are white. The piping is also black, so it just blends in, giving the briefs a solitary color throughout. There is an interesting fly on the briefs, but it seems to be more for stylistic purpose than for practicality; it isn't enough of a fly for an average-sized guy to utilize, let alone those who are more well-endowed.

These briefs retail for around $16. They can be found at Freshpair. This price is not entirely unreasonable for a brief that fits so well and holds up so well.

Overall, I give the Rated M briefs a score of 8 out of 10 based on the following:

Comfort: 10 out of 10 - great fabric blend; doesn't bunch
Fit: 9 out of 10
Style: 7 out of 10 - nothing to make this brief stick out from others; awkward/pointless fly
Value: 9 out of 10 - great price, though not necessarily justified since they don't really distinguish from other pairs
