New Brand Sheath + Review

So far I've reviewed some big names in underwear which happen to be some of my favourites. Now, I have for you a brand most of you won't be familiar with, Sheath. The pair I was sent is the Sheath 2.0 boxer brief.

Sheath has created a boxer brief with the active guy in mind. This is a very traditional cut and look for a boxer brief and while the design is simple the engineering and thought put into this boxer brief shows when you put it on. I did notice on the Sheath website that the boxer briefs are true and tested in some extremely active situations like mountain climbing, martial arts and yoga (and probably more).

Most guys are probably familiar with the pouch designs in active boxer briefs with the growth of the market all over North America. Sheath has created a pouch design that as you may guess is where the name Sheath comes from. It's a different design from 'keyholes' or lifting/enhancing pouches by a piece of fabric seen into the pouch that allows your stuff to sit into the pouch much like the lip of a cup [Uman says: reminds me a bit of the now-defunct brand Alio]. The fabric used is stretchable and lightweight enough to be comfortable and doesn't rely on any hardware or wiring inside the pouch to maintain shape. So this is a very gentle approach to underwear designed to separate and support your package. There is still some room for improvement in the pouch though, I found that as my package grew and shrunk in the cold weather that I would need to check and reposition myself.

The construction of the rest of the boxer brief is an obviously classic feel. A lot of modern underwear and pants for that matter have been lower rises including other athletic/active underwear. So this does stand out because of the higher rise. Other than the signature sheath pouch design and the higher rise, the construction is simplistic and minimalist. This includes the waistband which is a hidden fabric covered waistband with a small tag on the front that has the logo and brand Sheath. A great thing about this type of support in boxer briefs is the freedom a lot of guys are crazy about doesn't come with slipping out of one of the leg holes and for some this can happen constantly. So, if not for the construction for athletic needs, this is a great price for holding everything in place so you aren't slipping and falling out of your underwear.

If you aren't already familiar with my size, I am about a 26-28 waist and just under average height. So, when possible I try to go for the smallest size available from a retailer. The 1.0 is made in a boy's sizing 26-28 as the smallest size and the 2.0 is a 28-30. I was sent a 28-30 for this review and I was a little sad when I put these on that they were just a little big. I wasn't surprised but the higher rise did move and shift on me because of the sizing. Now, this is mostly just a heads up for the smaller guys who may be too small for these. But for every other guy who isn't a 28 these should fit great. Especially since the target audience for these boxer briefs is guys who have some more muscle, you should be fine to order the same size as your jeans. As for the leg size, these were perfect, not too tight and not to small and with a little stretch should stretch perfectly.

The fabric choice is also something most guys will be comfortable and at home with. This is a 95% cotton and 5% Elastane blend with average stretch. The 2.0 design was made to be more lightweight than the original design and as such will be more breathable and have a more natural/barely there feel. There isn't much to say about the fabric choice as it felt while I was wearing these because it is a simplistic blend. Throughout the day these moved with me and didn't require constant adjustment or shifting from moving but as I mentioned with the weather, I would slip once in a while.

Design is simple with the brand Sheath. I assume because the point of the underwear is to provide support to active people they've made a minimal design to keep the price for the consumer low and to allow for a lot of testing and designing newer designs. So, keeping all that in mind, as I mentioned before, we have a classic boxer brief that has a high rise and short length legs. This boxer brief does come in five colors (black, grey, white, blue and red) which is quite typical of many active wear brands.

It is worth mentioning that on the website there are close up pictures of the 2.0 design which shows a close up of the inside cup design and at the time of me writing this the 1.0 design is on sale.

UMan says: The folks at Sheath have generously extended a 20% off offer to MUB readers with coupon code MUB.

Croota Review - Sprinkles! (Part 1 of 2)

I've told UMan about that I don't wear boxer briefs often - I prefer to have underwear that is fun, revealing, tight fitting and even daring. You don't often find these qualities in a boxer brief but, I was pleasantly surprised with what came across my underwear drawer recently. I was given the chance to review two new Croota products, both of which are boxer briefs. One is a trunk style and the other is a more traditional length.

So, here's the first review. For the second review, keep your eye out for the All The Pattern review (coming soon).

First up is Sprinkles!

I'm actually really in love with the Sprinkles pair because they automatically popped out. The concept is something I've never thought about, kind of like a combo of a polka dot with a retro twist. I can't get over the name too, it just sounds fun! I had no idea what two pairs I was getting so it was a surprise that these were included. I immediately decided these were first to put on. I got the grey pair (I am modeling above) which has a simple white band, contour pouch and a short leg. The stitching on the legs gives the trunks a classic feel and paired with the colorful sprinkles pattern is really fun and nostalgic. So these definitely fit in the category of fun and flashy.

The sizing for the sprinkles pair I got is 27-29, small which worked nicely for me (I'm about a 27). I do appreciate having a sizing that goes below 28 because it is so difficult to find something that is tight fitting enough to not get too big through the day. Not many brands do go to a 27 or even a 26 and it definitely makes a difference. They fit me nicely in the waist, the junk and butt area.  The legs fit a little big in back right beneath the butt though. I suspect this is simply for comfort while walking or for shape while sitting as well as me being a 27, the smaller end of the sizing. The pouch is seamed on the sides and once down the middle to slightly contour, though the trunks hold everything comfortably snug.

Croota uses a simple fabric blend of cotton with an elastane for stretch, so there isn't anything really special for these in that department but this works as an advantage. These are definitely not meant to be anything kinky or daring so a simple fabric choice is good for comfort and to get guys to try out something different in their comfort zone.
I've worn these to work, school, and to lounge at home and found it was comfortable, moveable and functional. They do, as I mentioned, have a little more room (as you can see in the picture above) in the legs so watch for bunching under slimmer pants. This is certainly where my love for jocks and thongs comes from, I simply don't like fabric that feels like it doesn't need to be there.

I really wish they would make some more colors of this style. I love nice neutral tones with pops of color, it's fun and different but also realistic for the average guy too. I could also really see these in an inverted color scheme like bright pink with chocolate sprinkles or white, grey and black. There's definitely a lot of potential for this boxer brief.

MY RATING: 8.25 (out of 10)
Recommended for: Comfort and showing off (whatever that may be ;) )

Bottoms Out Reviewed

Bottoms O*U*T is an all-American brand out of NYC. Their products have what they call a "chill attitude" for the casual and dorming lifestyle. They are, in a word, what I would call "basic" underwear. But today I want to review them because we don't often discuss basic, everyday underwear on this site. And these are really great basic option. Today we will be reviewing the Bottoms O*U*T boxer briefs.

First off I must say, I don't usually wear underwear that comes in three-packs, so this is quite a change from what I normally wear. That being said, I was quite pleasantly surprised with the quality of these boxer briefs. I received the Bottoms Out boxer briefs in the basic army, charcoal, heather grey combo pack, but they do come in more exciting colors and patterns as well.

These boxer briefs fit quite well. They aren't too tight or too loose and I haven't experienced the legs riding up as is often a problem with boxer briefs. The legs are the perfect length. I usually don't like underwear with a functional fly as they tend to be not too useful, but on these boxer briefs it actually enhances the look and fit of the underwear. And from those that have the privilege of seeing me in just my underwear, I've been told that they make my ass and package look nice.

These boxer briefs are surprisingly comfortable considering they are made from a cotton/polyester blend. The fabric is soft to the touch as is the waistband. The seamless construction across the sides and rear not only makes for a comfortable fit, but also makes these undies perfect under tight pants - these have become a go-to for me under tight dress pants. One caveat, they don't breathe super well, so I wouldn't recommend them for working out, etc.

Style-wise these are quite basic, although some pairs are more stylish depending on the pattern. For example, some pairs have patterned or contrast elastics. What I like is that each three-pack has good variety within the pack. You can also buy them as single pairs if you prefer. The quality of these is quite good for basic underwear, I would highly recommend them. And at $29 for a three-pack or $8 for a single pair, they are a good value!

MY RATING:
Overall, I give the Bottoms O*U*T boxer briefs a total score of 9 based on the following criteria:
FIT -- 8 (out of 10) - Great fit. Nice seamless rear and side construction makes them perfect under tight pants.
COMFORT -- 8 (out of 10) - Surprisingly comfortable for a cotton/poly blend. Doesn't breathe well.
STYLE -- 9 (out of 10) - Basic. More stylish depending on the color option selected.
QUALITY -- 9 (out of 10) - Good quality for something so basic. Not your average three-pack
VALUE -- 10 (out of 10) - For a three-pack they are a bargain.

Brief Boys Review Good Devil Ballz-Out Boxer Briefs

Avg. $24.50

Brief Boys Mitchell and Patton review the Ballz-Out Boxer Brief, by Good Devil – “for those who dare.”

Patton: I couldn’t wear them, but I don’t knock ‘em for trying.

Mitchell: I was surprised that I could wear them. The overall concept seems a little outlandish, but a whole day of wearing them isn’t as distracting as you’d think. And for what they are they’re well made.

P: I get the idea, and I can see how they’d work. They’re just not for me. For what they are, though, they do seem to work. Your balls fit pretty well through the opening and, well, there they are. They’re out! Good for a hot day I guess.

M: Totally. I usually wear thinner or lighter briefs with tight pants or shorts, so these are a good candidate for that. Having your balls out does open up more opportunities for pinching, though, or snagging on things you don’t want to snag. But it’s a nice alternative to full commando – the “free” feeling of being out there but without having them stick to your leg.

P: Can’t really argue with that. What I found most uncomfortable was the penis “pocket” – a little constrictive, and maybe a better fit for grow-ers than show-ers.

M: Yeah, it’s a tight fit. Most often it ends up off to the side. The other downside to the overall fit is in the back – they don’t seem like they’re quite high enough, and I found myself constantly tugging them back up. The tag is also a bit oversized and tends to stick up.

P: I suppose one good market for these is guys concerned with their sperm count who still want to wear briefs. All the support of a brief, only your “swimmie” factory gets to stay cool and productive.

M: Perhaps that’s why the two of us are having so much trouble conceiving.

P: I doubt it’s the only reason, but we can look into it. Overall, even though these aren’t for everyone, they go beyond the gimmick. These actually could find their way into a man’s regular rotation.

M: Agreed. You might want to think twice on gym days, though.

P: Or if you’re wearing super short-shorts.

M: Yikes.

Brief Boys Review Tu Felix Lederhosen Long Boxer Brief

Lederhosen Long Boxer Brief
Tu Felix
Avg. $39 US

Brief Boys Mitchell and Patton review the Lederhosen Long Boxer Brief from Tu Felix, which since 2008 has sought to “represent the pulse and tradition of Austria” with an eye toward contemporary culture.

Patton: These. Are. Cute.

Mitchell: Super cute. This is the first time I’ve ever wished that my underwear came with suspenders.

P: And a slice of schwarzwälder kirschtorte!

M: That’s German. Don’t you mean a sprig of edelweiss?

P: You ruin everything. Even The Sound of Music. But you get the idea.

M: Now I’m imagining Rolf wearing these lederhosen.

P: They’re seriously adorable. The little antlers on the waistband, the embroidery, and the dual access pouch in the front – you can’t not get all giggly.

M: I think the little pocket on the right leg is outstanding. Though it’s worth noting that this is only found on the longer version – the short boxer brief doesn’t have one.

P: They’re extremely comfortable, too. At least for several hours. Like all boxer briefs they start riding a little low on your thighs and need regular hoisting.

M: Really? I didn’t have any problems with that. I was pleasantly surprised by how much lift they have, actually.

P: I think that’s the pouch. I definitely felt at home in there, but not, you know, out on my own.

M: My only real complaint is the tag. I had them on for about ten minutes before I ran for the seam-ripper.

P: It’s unnecessarily scratchy, isn’t it? Like having a woodchip stuck in your waistband. The tag is definitely something our kleine Herren will want to cut out right away. The one thing that sort of bothered me – and that you can’t really fix – was that the back can make your butt look a little flat. But that’s not always the end of the world. Oh, and the pouch takes some getting used to – if you bend forward, anyone could peek right in. Keep an eye on that, I guess.

M: You mean both eyes?

P: The more the merrier.

M: Perhaps even the “eye toward contemporary culture?” Tu Felix has a large line of clothing – not only underwear – and they offer the Lederhosen Boxer Brief in a variety of colors (not just brown). Personally, I think they’ve succeeded in bringing Austrian traditions forward, yet still selling a wearable brief. If I ever get stripped searched at the airport in Vienna, this is what I plan to wear.

P: A planned strip search?

M: These will definitely make it into my regular rotation, is what I mean. I just wish there was a company making traditional Irish clothing this fun and sexy.

P: I don’t think kilt underwear would be all that functional. Or, you know, exist.

M: I’m not afraid to dream.

 FIT /  Good
 COMFORT /  Good
 STYLE /  Excellent
 QUALITY /  Excellent
 VALUE /  Good

BOTTOM LINE /  A unique, fun style that’s surprisingly comfortable and functional – the best way to work lederhosen into your wardrobe.

Brief Boys Review Big Boys Boxer Brief

Boxer Brief
Big Boys
Avg. $22 US

Brief Boys Mitchell and Patton review the standard boxer brief from Big Boys, which “conforms to your shape and gives you all the support you need.”

Patton: Let’s start with the obvious. Did they conform to your shape?

Mitchell: I think these would conform to a wide variety of shapes. Thanks to the, let’s say, spacious pouch design, there’s plenty of room, big boy or not. Normally, I don’t find boxer briefs very supportive, but these surprised me. They’re as comfortable as a brief.

P: Agreed. Consumers will be surprised at just how much you can stuff into these things, and yet have them remain comfortable. I think the fabric goes a long way in this, too, as it’s stretchy yet incredibly soft. I’m not big on boxer briefs, either, since they can sometimes feel like pantyhose, but these aren’t suffocating at all, nor do they ride up as the day goes on.

M: I noticed that, too. And there’s not super tight elastic in the legs, either. It was nice not to feel like my legs were losing circulation. And when do you wear pantyhose?

P: The one thing I will say about the pouch, though – and this is just a personal thing – is that it’s more or less an erection generator. There’s a lot more movement, during the day, and it’s a lot harder, if you’ll excuse the pun, to ignore what’s going on down there.

M: Well, I enjoyed the extra freedom, and didn’t encounter any distractions. Though if you’re undressing with an audience, be aware that the fabric is a little see-through. For the more bashful, I’d suggest one of the darker colors.

P: I’m fine with see-through fabric, but when you combine it with that weird crease on the pouch, suddenly it’s not so sexy.

M: Yeah, I’m not sure what’s up with that. It makes you look a little pointy.

P: Seems like it could be a simple fix, too. Either way, this is definitely not a family friendly, or even roommate friendly, pair of underwear. Not much is left to the imagination.

M: Still, though, it’s a simple defect in an otherwise comfortable, flattering pair of underwear that brings out the shower in us all.

P: And the grower, apparently.

 FIT /  Excellent
 COMFORT /  Excellent
 STYLE /  Good
 QUALITY /  Excellent
 VALUE /  Excellent

BOTTOM LINE /  The perfect choice for guys looking for extra space.

Low-rise Excites (Xzytes) - A Review

I've mentioned Xzytes a couple times in the past as being a great place to get cheap, fun underwear.  While today I want to review one of their own styles, their low-rise boxerbrief.

As far as the fit of this thing goes, it's decidedly very skimpy - no question about it.  You are definitely going to want to size up on these (if you normally wear a small get a medium) because they are super small and tight.  I normally wear a small and I can barely fit all my junk into the medium.  Consult their size chart for information, although I'm a 28 inch waist and I'm pretty sure that this medium would not fit someone with a 33 inch waist.  So size accordingly. These undies are super small and low-rise, they are not nearly large enough to be considered a boxerbrief.  They barely cover my ass-crack and some of my cheeks hang out the bottom.  Guys with bubble butts beware, these are not going to cover you in the least.  They also have a tendency to conform to your body and the center seam in the back rides right up your butt.  The front is super tiny with barely any extra room in the pouch - try not to get hard because there's no room.  The cut is super sexy and when they say super-low-rise, they mean it.

As far as the comfort of these things goes it's a little varied.  The nylon/lycra blend is surprisingly smooth and not itchy as you might expect.  It is very light-weight and quick-drying - perfect for a hot summer day or a hot night in the club.  The fit, however, hinders the comfort.  While I feel adequately supported, at times I almost feel squashed - especially when you first put these things on.  The center seam, however, often makes it feel like you're wearing a thong even though you're not.  This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's worth pointing out.  After a little getting used to them though they feel a little better.  But I find myself wanting to pull them up to cover my crack.  But if you pull them up your cheeks hang out, and when you pull them down your crack hangs out.  So it's hard to win.  But if that's what you're going for these are perfect for you.

That being said, the style of these SCREAMS go-go boy and would be the perfect skimpy pair to wear in the club.  They're really about showing off, but without looking like you're trying too hard.  Their skimpy coverage looks sexy, but not vulgar.  And the subtle sheen of the fabric would look great under the disco ball.  Bring on the dancing!  But for everyday wear, these probably aren't the thing.

These undies are currently on sale at Xzytes for only $10 (originally $20).  That's definitely a steal - you can get two for the price of one!  The quality of these is quite exceptional and will certainly hold up to a lot of bumping and grinding.

MY RATING:
Overall, I give the Xyztes Boxerbrief a total score of 7 based on the following criteria:
FIT -- 8 (out of 10) - Super skimpy, not really a boxerbrief  Does not cover it all at once - you have to choose between your crack and your cheeks.  Runs small - make sure to size-up from your normal size.
COMFORT -- 7 (out of 10) - Fabric is surprisingly soft.  Don't feel covered due to the fit.  Requires adjusting.  No room to grow.
STYLE -- 5 (out of 10) as underwear; 9 (out of 10) as clubwear - Sexy and hot.  Feels more like clubwear than underwear though.
QUALITY -- 9 (out of 10) - Well made. Holds up well.
VALUE -- 10 (out of 10) - Great deal for $10.  Great for summer fun.

Craig Ferguson Tucks in His Banana Republic boxerbriefs

I just wanted to share with you guys this fun(ny) video of talk show host and comedian Craig Ferguson talking about his underwear and sharing them.  He explains that he always tucks his shirt into his undies so that the shirt won't bunch up while on television.  He also mentions that it helps hide his large endowment.  He even pulls down his pants around 00:24 to reveal black Banana Republic brand boxer briefs.

This brings up an interesting question for discussion: when you get dressed up, do you tuck your shirt into your underpants?

Get Your Baws in These Bags - A Review

Bawbags is a fun, funky line of men's clothing and underwear.  The line has a sort of urban grunge, skater look.  It's where bold, loud prints meet tattooed skater models full of personality.  In fact, they work with pro skaters to represent them and model their gear.  The whole line just screams at you to give it some attention - and it's worthy of it.  What's a "bawbag" you might ask?  Well a "baw" is a slang Scottish term for "testicle".  So a "bawbag" would be a bag for your testicles, which is exactly what underwear is when you think about it.  And the name is very fitting since part of your purchase goes towards the worthy cause of testicular cancer research.  The line comes in boxerbriefs and boxers.  Each pair retails for £10 (about $16 USD).

For the purpose of today's review, I tried out the boxerbriefs in the blue leopard print.  Now before I start this review I want to give you a little background of where I stand on boxerbriefs and my history with them.  Usually I'm not a big fan of boxerbriefs and tend to go for trunks as they are more form fitting and flattering.  I usually find boxerbriefs to be too baggy in the crotch and too loose in the legs so that they just ride around in strange ways all day.  But that wasn't the case at all with these boxerbriefs!  These things fit like a glove in all the right ways.  Unlike most boxerbriefs, these things are form fitting through the crotch but still allow the waistband to be at your waist instead of pulled all the way up to your armpits (like some boxerbriefs make you do).  And the legs are just the right amount of tight so that they stay in place as they should and don't move around throughout the day.  They're just long enough through the leg so that you feel covered, but they're not too long that you can barely move.  These things fit snugly, but not too snug.  It's like the perfect, warm hug around your crotch and rear.  It keeps everything held in place but doesn't squeeze you to death.

These things are made of comfy cotton with 5% lyrcra for elasticity.  Unlike most boxerbriefs there are no back seams or sideseams making for perfect comfort across the rear.  The only seaming is for the front access panel.  Now I never use the fly on underwear, but the one on these is quite usable if you so choose.  The waistband is also perfectly suited to comfort.  These are just all around great undies to knock around in and do whatever.  They're comfy and will keep all your junk in place throughout the day.

Another reason I usually dislike boxerbriefs is because they all tend to be pretty basic and lacking in style, but these things SCREAM style!  While they may not be for everyone, I personally love them.  Most of Bawbags' styles are bold and in your face, so you have to be the right type of guy to want to wear these.  But if you're like me, you're gonna have a great time.  They have a knack for mixing bold colors that aren't normally put together for a fantastic effect.  I really can't get enough.  The bold waistband peeking above your pants just begs you to stop and see more.

These boxerbriefs from Bawbags are great quality.  The fabric prints are done in a unique way that isn't quite screen-printed, but doesn't show through on the other side.  The prints are implemented into the fabric in such a way that they don't inhibit the fabric from its proper movement, but they also don't wash out.  The quality of the stitching is good with no loose threads to be seen anywhere, even after repeated washings.  Even the waistband remains crisp and new-looking after almost a year of wear.  I've gotta say, I'm impressed.  And for 16 bucks these are definitely worth it.  Who knew I could like boxerbriefs so much?

MY RATING:
Overall, I give the Bawbags boxerbriefs a total score of 9 based on the following criteria:
FIT -- 10 (out of 10) - Well-fitting boxerbriefs.  Not too baggy through the crotch or leg.  Stays in place.
COMFORT -- 10 (out of 10) - Super comfy cotton.  No back or sideseams getting in the way.
STYLE -- 9 (out of 10) - Screams style!  Not for the timid.
QUALITY -- 10 (out of 10) - Well made.  Holds up great all around even after lots of washings.
VALUE -- 9 (out of 10) - Well priced; benefits testicular cancer research.

Enhanced Enhancing - Cocksox, a Review

Cocksox is known for their profile enhancing underwear designs.  A few years ago when Cocksox first came out, I reviewed their briefs.  My biggest complaints were that they did not adequately hold everything in place when aroused and they often rode down, requiring lots of adjustments throughout the day.

Today I am going to review the Cocksox trunk with new waistband.  I tried them in white.

The first thing I want to discuss with these is the enhancing component.  I think this is the most successful implementation of Cocksox's enhancing technology yet.  Because it is part of a trunk instead of something skimpier, there is enough fabric to hold everything in place no matter what your state of arousal is.  In previous versions, the pouch was such that it often separated from the body in such a way that support was lost.

Now the question is, does it really enhance? I will admit, the results are not as drastic as some of Cocksox's other gear.  Instead what this trunk does is it basically collects your manhood in front of you and just sort of holds it in place.  Other Cocksox styles that I've tried hold things out at almost a 90 degree angle, whereas this trunk holds it out at a slightly smaller angle.  This makes for less drastic enhancement, but honestly some of the other stuff was almost too much.

As Cocksox promotes on their website, these trunks are truly quite versatile.  They offer enough support so that they can be worn for running.  But they're also perfect to wear just during the day.  The Supplex/Lycra blend fabric dries really quickly which is great for an active lifestyle or washing on the go.

The cut of these trunks is nice. They hit in the perfect place mid-thigh so that they won't ride up, but they're also not going to show underneath your running shorts.  The rise is such that they are perfect for wear with low-rise or mid-rise jeans.  The supplex/lycra fabric is lightweight and thin.  Perfect for hot summer days.  I honestly forget I'm wearing these, they really are like a second skin.  The back is seamless for a nice, smooth look under tight clothing.

These trunks have a waistband, which is unusual for Cocksox gear.  I really like this addition as it is very stylish looking and also holds the underwear in place and prevents them from riding down.  I really like the use of the blue accent color for the lettering on the white waistband, it adds a little panache.  The waistband is flat-stitched to the rest of the undies to minimize the bulk and increase their comfort.  There are no elastic legbands, but just a simple folding over at the bottom of the legs suffices.  This makes for a comfortable fit while keeping the legs from riding up.  These trunks are stylish in a reserved way.  They are a very current, modern fit but the basic white makes them look very classic.

These trunks are exceptional quality.  I've had these for quite a while and they have gone through the wash numerous times.  Often with synthetic fabrics you start to get a lot of "pilling" after repeated washes.  But I have not had any problems with that.  They also have kept their crisp white color in both the body of the underwear and the waistband.  I have experienced a little bit of stretching out at the bottom of the legs, but after a wash they snap back into shape.

At about $30 USD a piece, these are not cheap.  But I've gotten a lot of great wear out of mine and expect a lot more to come.  These things will definitely last you.  They are versatile and can be worn for athletic purposes - $30 is a great price for something that is so versatile.  And if you get them today (7/18/10), Cocksox is still having their Cocksox day sale so you can save 20%.

MY RATING:
Overall, I give the Cocksox Trunk with new Waistband a total score of 9 based on the following criteria:
FIT -- 9 (out of 10) - Stylish, modern fit.  Hits mid-thigh.  Improved enhancing pouch.
COMFORT -- 9 (out of 10) - Thin, lightweight material perfect for summer.  Like a second skin.
STYLE -- 8 (out of 10) - Reserved style.  Stylish waistband and cut.
QUALITY -- 10 (out of 10) - No pilling or fading after repeated washes. Holds up well.
VALUE -- 8 (out of 10) - Expensive but versatile.

Piado: Review

Piado is a great new brand of underwear that focuses on underwear as style and fashion. Their products are eco-friendly with fabric made from a bamboo lycra blend (94% bamboo/6% lycra). Piado makes two styles, a boxerbrief and a brief. You can purchase Piado boxerbriefs at His Trunks for $24.

Today I'm going to be reviewing the boxerbrief from Piado. I own them in red although they come in an array of fun colors. I want to start by talking about the fit. These aren't your average boxerbriefs; they have a unique fit that I haven't seen before. When not being worn they look almost like a very full-rise pair of briefs - but once you put them on they are definitely not briefs. I would describe the fit as more of a trunk fit - the legs come to just above the package (depending on how large it is), but they do not cut up like briefs. Upon close inspection you realize that these boxerbriefs have quite minimal coverage - something I really like about them. They have no fly to make for a streamlined look. The streamlining continues on the back with minimal seams on either side of the butt. The waist is low-rise, but not unbearably so. It's not what your grandfather wore, but it's not scandalous by any stretch of the imagination. The fit is designed so that it fits you, but it doesn't squeeze you, it just gently conforms around your body in a very pleasing manner.

The bamboo cotton fabric is oh-so-soft and I really didn't even notice that I was wearing anything all day. They are very touchable and breathable and are a great illustration of the benefits of using natural fibers for your underwear. And, as is becoming standard, these undies are tagless so you won't have anything irritating your butt all day. The styling of these boxerbriefs is very modern with bold, bright colors. But the design is very simple so that even the most conservative man would feel comfortable wearing these. It has just enough detail to be fashionable while not going overboard. There is contrast piping around the legs and at the waistband. And the bold Piado waistband will be sure to be a conversation starter (if you choose to show it off).

Because of the low lycra percentage these undies do stretch out a little bit during the day - but it's nothing uncomfortable and nothing that a quick spin through the washer won't fix (although be careful you don't put them in for too long). At $24 a piece at His Trunks, these undies are worth the price. They are moderately expensive, but for the natural fibers and the fun, but not over the top, comfort it's money well spent.

MY RATING:
Overall, I give the Piado boxerbriefs a total score of 9 based on the following criteria:
FIT -- 8 (out of 10) - Small and sexy, but can get a little loose during the day.
COMFORT -- 10 (out of 10) - Incredibly comfortable natural fibers make for superb comfort all day long.
STYLE -- 9 (out of 10) - Very edgy style, but still wearable.
QUALITY -- 9 (out of 10) - Stretch out a tad during the day, but easily shrink back to size.
VALUE -- 8 (out of 10) - Moderately priced, but worth it.

Celebrity Underwear Sighting: Henrik Stenson

Swedish golf star Henrik Stenson was forced to shed his clothes the other day in order to hit the ball out of a muddy water hazard without ruining his clothing. He stripped down to just his boxerbriefs, which are a classic Bjorn Borg trunk (available for purchase here at Dead Good Undies).

"Because of the mud I couldn't really afford to play in any of my clothes as they would have been a real mess down the last six or so holes so I had no option," said Stenson in Florida after the incident.

"I was only wearing two things when I hit the shot, my jocks and my golf glove - that is the only thing that will appear in the picture aside from the golf club - just the way God created me.

"Shirt, trousers, socks, shoes, hat - the lot was off."

Not sure if there are any rules against this behavior, but it's certainly an unorthodox way of playing and definitely got Stenson some attention. Who knows, maybe he'll become the new face of Bjorn Borg.... And who's to say that this won't become the new trend, soccer (football) stars strip to their skivvies all the time!

Undertoys Reviewed

It's been a while since I last mentioned Undertoys, so if you'd like some background about the brand go back and read this post. Today I'm going to review these awesome underpants.

This brand is inspired by kids undies, but unlike similar (in terms of taking inspiration from boy's undies) brands like Ginch Gonch, Undertoys' designs are pure kid with no adult innuendo. My favorite two styles are the pinstripe and the super. The pinstripe is great because at first look it just appears to be a classy pinstriped trunk with little designs on it, but upon closer inspection you realize that each pinstripe is a road and the designs are little cars and planes driving around the city that is your underpants. And the 'super' style, well seriously, who doesn't like playing super man?

The other styles are fun, but they are a little too child-like for my personal tastes. The pinstripe is the most like ordinary underwear, but with a fun child-inspired twist. But really all of the styles are adult appropriate and are a fun way to break away from the norm.

Now the first time I tried these on I wasn't so fond of the fit because the all over graphic print made the undies very crisp, almost like they were starched. But after a few washes and wears they really got broken in (in terms of fit, the graphic print holds up well after repeated washing) and started to feel nice. I really love the softness of the waistband, there is no cutting or riding up and the tag is sewn flush to the waistband to avoid irritation. These undies are really comfy after a few washes (so just wash a couple times before wearing them, and line dry!). Now even though the tag instructs you to "wear more than three days in a row or inside out", I would suggest you just get yourself a couple pairs. They are really comfy, but you shouldn't sacrifice good hygiene for comfort. Plus, the tag is just a joke, don't take it literally.

The fit of these undies is a little different than your standard trunk/boxerbrief. The legs are a little longer than you would expect with no real legbands (just doubled over fabric). Because of the legband thing the legs do ride up when you sit down, but it is not uncomfortable and you really only notice that they ride up if you look in your pants and check. I like this approach to legbands because sometimes the elastic ones cut or are just too tight, but these are really quite comfy. These undies might not be great for active wear as the legs move around, but they are just fine for day to day wear. Another difference in fit is the pouch, it's cut a little flatter and a little bigger than most pouches. But the flatness works out because its size allows it to stretch more than other pouches.

One of my favorite feature of this line is something that you can't really tell from the photos, so I have to tell you about it because it is just that cool. On the waistband of each style is some sort of embroidered design that complements the overall style of the pant. For example, the skywars has a captain's badge, the camo one has military stars, and the invaders has a number that is the score of the game. I think this feature is so fun and the embroidery makes it very classy. Which leads me to the quality. The quality is really superb. The pouch is double lined and as I previously mentioned the design holds up well in the wash. I really can't ask for much more in the quality department.

The only thing that I'd like to see from this brand is more styles and maybe a briefs option.

Should you buy them? At around $20 a pair, I feel that you will get good value for your money. These are really great undies and something that every man wants (if only secretly) to own and to wear.

MY RATING:
Overall, I give the Undertoys trunks a total score of 9 based on the following criteria:
FIT -- 9 (out of 10)
COMFORT -- 9 (out of 10) (after washing a couple times, otherwise about a 6)
STYLE -- 10 (out of 10)
QUALITY -- 9 (out of 10)
VALUE -- 8 (out of 10)
