Cazwell Goes Commando, Launches Underwear Line - Exclusive Interview

Cazwell is a well-known rapper known for his songs with gay themes and sexy videos. He recently launched a line of underwear called Ice Cream Truck after his hit single with the same name. The line is a collaboration with designer Geoffrey Mac. We had the chance to sit down with Cazwell to discuss the collection, his underwear preferences, and what's next for the rapper. Check out the exclusive interview below.

MUB: Hello Cazwell, how are you? 
Cazwell: Good, thanks!

MUB: I'm a long-time fan and follower of your music. Let's get down to business and ask what we all want to know, what underwear are you wearing right now? 
C: Well today is long overdue laundry day so I’m actually free ballin’ right now in a pair of basketball shorts. But my whites are in the dryer, so I should have a fresh pair soon :)

MUB: Besides your own line, what would we find in your underwear drawer? Do you have a favorite style? Favorite brand?
C: I honestly have never have been a designer underwear kind of guy. I usually just run to Macy’s and grab a pack of Tommy’s or Calvin boxer briefs. I used to be strictly boxers kind of guy. It wasn’t until last year that I moved up to boxer briefs, lol.

MUB: What prompted you to start this line? What was the inspiration, besides the song of course? 
C: We were originally looking at sportswear. We wanted to do some basketball shorts and matching tanks, but then I said let’s just start with one simple product. I always wanted to get into the underwear business, and I did a lot of research with underwear buyers. We bounced back and forth with a bunch of names for it but landed on Ice Cream Truck because I’m associated with that video more than any other and it gave us the opportunity to work with a theme.

MUB: How involved were you in the design process? 
C: Very. I love working with Geoffrey Mac. They involved me in every step. It took a long time to figure it out. The things you think are simple like finding the right kind of elastic band to print the design on is actually extremely tedious, and there is a lot of testing involved but we finally got it right.

MUB: Will we be seeing you in "Ice Cream Truck"? 
C: Absolutely!! I’m planning the new ad campaign now. You’ll also see some new models. I'm excited about it!

MUB: It looks like the line is selling like hot cakes, or should we say hot pants? Do you have plans for expanding the line? Will you be making other styles like briefs or jockstraps? Or playing off of other slogans or songs of yours? 
C: You know I’m already thinking about that! LOL. The next step is dropping a bathing suit for the summer along with the next batch of underwear. This line obviously just started, but I hope to move into jockstraps and boxer shorts.

MUB: What's next for you? 
C: Right now I’m casting models for my next couple of videos so if you know of any, send them my way. And YES, they will be wearing Ice Cream Truck underwear…LOL!

What to Wear to the Gym?

Hey, it's me again. The least model-esque writer on this blog. But I'm back, and I'm still on my quest to lose my belly. I'll never be as rail-thin as UMan, but I don't have to be twice his size, either. Just an update - as of this week, I have lost 34lbs from when I started tracking last summer, and I am about to hit my first-stage goal. Now, if only I could wave a magic wand and make that stubborn, beastly muffin top disappear overnight...

Anywho... So we opened a new wellness center/workout facility in my little corner of nowheresville, and I've started working out a few times a week. My running pace is crummy compared to where I left off last fall, but it feels good to stretch my legs, even if it's just on the treadmill. I haven't worked with weights in years, so that's nice, too.

What that brings me to is this: What does an average joe wear to work out in? And specifically, what kind of underpants does one wear for running? I've asked UMan this, and he's one of those sickeningly thin people who doesn't have to work out, so that was a bust. So I'm going to talk about three pairs I have recently worn to the gym, and how they worked for me.

First is a Calvin Klein jockstrap. I have had this one for years, and it is the only "street" jock I own. It is mostly cotton, but it is wicked comfy (although it may not have enough room for someone as gifted as UMan). As far as workout wear goes, it does the job, and it didn't get all sweaty. I think I could like working out in jockstraps like this, if I had more of them. What do you gentlemen wear for running undies? Do you, O Reader, have any recommendations for running jocks that don't cost a fortune?

Second is a pair of UnderArmour 6" BoxerJock. These are entirely synthetic fabric, and they have a ventilated pouch. I like these, especially for running outdoors on a cool day. I wish they actually made my basket look like the guys in their ads, but I suspect I haven't got enough "padding" for that. I think I'd rather wear a jock more often than this pair, though.

Third is a pair I just got recently - a Jockey Sport H-fly trunk. The fabric makes the same claims as most athletic underwear - form-fitting, sweat-wicking, and so on. They feel nice, and I really like the way the H-fly pouch holds my bits, and makes my bulge look. They're good, but nothing super-spectacular in terms of workout wear.

So... What are your recommendations for undies for running? For gym wear?

Review of Undz Briefs

Canada is not often a name that we associate with quality underwear (or with underwear at all, for that matter). The Undz (pronounced undeez) brand is a relatively new name on the market. Earlier this year, in my never-ending quest for new and exciting underwear, I stumbled across this great brand of underwear. Founded in 2010 in Montreal, the Undz brand believes that “you shouldn't have to take out a loan in an effort to fulfill your trendy underwear collection desires.”

As a recent college graduate and new to the workforce with limited funds, I can completely appreciate this belief. The Undz brand comes in two styles – briefs and boxers, which are more like trunks. If you’re looking for a way to add some color to your underwear drawer, then Undz is a great choice for you. The brand has a variety of fun colors, ranging from plain white, black, and gray, to pink, green, blue, and purple in their more traditional styles. Recently, the brand has added the “fluffy soft waistband” model to its boxer/trunk selection, which comes in newer, more exciting colors than their traditional models. What’s more, the color holds after continuous wear and washing.

Harkening to their belief that quality underwear should be affordable, the price of this underwear ranges from just $5 for the classic briefs to $10 for the “fluffy soft waistband,” with other price options between. And for just $1.99 processing and $5.99 for shipping across the US and Canada regardless of order size, it’s affordable to shop this brand. As far as fit goes, the Undz brand is made really well. Don’t just take my word for it, though. I have a friend who is dedicated to the 2(x)ist brand; I urged him to order some of the Undz briefs, and he now is a firm believer in Undz and even compares them to the 2(x)ist briefs.

From personal experience, these underwear are great for extended wear. The brand seems to stay true to size; I am a small (28-30), and their small fits me perfectly. They fit snugly (but not constrictively) at the waist and have the perfect amount of fabric, so it’s not too tight nor does it have too much fabric where it would bind. The briefs do not appear to have much of a pouch. In fact, my friend who is dedicated to the 2Xist brand was hesitant to try them simply because they lack an obvious pouch. But as he has learned, there is adequate room in the briefs. The briefs are better than most for all-day comfort because they stay in place. Wherever they are in the morning, they will be there in the afternoon. And what’s better than a pair of underwear that doesn’t ride up over the course of the day?!

Overall, I give the Undz brand brief a 10 based on the following scale:

Fit – 10 (out of 10) Snug fit without being constrictive

Comfort – 10 (out of 10) Great for extended wear. No extra fabric, so they don’t bunch up. Smooth fabric blend helps repeal sweat. Ample room.

Style – 10 (out of 10) Distinct, simple, and clean look.

Quality – 10 (out of 10) Very well made.

Value – 10 (out of 10) Very affordable and will last for a while, so worth the investment.

Seeing and Being Seen

Do you have issues with being seen in your underwear?

Of course there's the discussion that could be had about saggers. You know the type; I saw them in the mall yesterday. Their pants are riding so low you can almost see light between their pants and their drawers. There must be someone who thinks that's sexy - for the life of me I can't see why.

But I've noticed that a lot of guys have problems with being seen in their underwear. Even more so when getting into and out of their undies. I know of guys who don't like going to the doctor, because he might see their undies, or worse (personally, I'm fine with it). In changing rooms or when sharing hotel rooms, some guys go out of their way not to be seen in a state of undress. To me, that's a hassle. Just do your thing and keep moving. That said, I do choose my undies more carefully when I'm sharing a room with other guys. Don't want my friends to get the wrong idea by my choice of undies.

Then there's the paradox of the guys who fastidiously cover up when in street clothes, but when they put on swim trunks - even boardies - the shorts ride down almost til the bush is peeking out.

This past week, I ran a 5k, and it was 35F when we started. That got me thinking about the idea of running tights. Do I want to be seen in skin-tight pants? Does one wear undies under them? Should one wear shorts over them? I ended up running in a pair of long-johns with my running shorts over.

On the other hand, I bet some of you have a bit of exhibitionist/voyeur streak. Do you like to show off, or keep things hidden? How much do you let show? Who do you let see?
