It's Thong Season: Reasons To Wear a Thong

What lots of men don't realize is that one should diversify their underwear wardrobe.  Many men find a particular style or brand that they like and they stick with it.  But every type of underwear has it's time and it's place, including thongs for men.

Now I'm not one of those guys that wears a thong every day (although there are guys like that - more on that later), but I do realize that thongs have a time and a place and I am not afraid to wear them.  Today I wore a thong, and that got me thinking about thongs and their place.

Today wasn't going to be a thong day for me, but it ended up that way, and I'm glad it did.  I originally put on a pair of skimpy briefs (that I was planning on reviewing).  But then when I put my skinny jeans on, I realize there just wasn't space for the briefs - they were bunching up.  So with a bit of effort, I took off my jeans and briefs and grabbed a thong.  The jeans went on a lot smoother and fit better, no uncomfortable bunching.  Now of course not every guy has jeans as tight as I do, but this brings up a bigger point that you should tailor your underwear choice to work with the rest of your outfit.  Thus you should be willing to be a little versatile in what you wear.

With hot summer days around the corner, thongs (and other skimpy undies) have the benefit of keeping you cooler due to their minimal coverage.  My thong came in handy today when I found myself out doing yard work.  I ended up hot and sweaty.  If I had kept the briefs they would've held all the sweat against my body, but the thong makes for a much more comfy experience in the heat.  They could also be useful for workouts for the same reasons.

I have a friend that wears thongs on an almost daily basis.  And when he's not wearing thongs he's wearing something else that's skimpy, like a jockstrap.  He tells me he wears thongs because they make him feel hot and they're "crazy comfortable".  He also loves the support in the front and the air in the back.  I have to agree.  There is no other underwear for men that is as supportive and liberating as a thong.

While thongs for men used to have a stigma in society, they have now become a lot more mainstream and acceptable.  Gone are the days when they were relegated to the realm of male strippers and could only be found in sex shops.  Now you can pick up men's thongs made by mainstream brands like Jockey, 2(x)ist, or Calvin Klein at stores like Target or Macy's.  So while I'm not suggesting you be like my friend and wear a thong every day, why not give them a try if you haven't already?

I can't stand thongs, they always feel like I have toilet paper stuck in my butt! But I do agree with summer wear. Full cotton boxer-briefs can be unbearable working outside.

To each his own. The main point is to wear underwear that is appropriate to the occasion and not be afraid to try new things.

Although I will admit, I've had thongs that feel like that too. Some work, some don't. Maybe you haven't tried the right thong. Try different fabrics and ones with different width straps.

Indeed, to each his own.

I am like your friend but perhaps even more a thong fan. I only wear thongs and don't have any other underwear anymore, also lately been wearing them more and more on the beach.

I do agree that some thongs just don't work. I always wear thongs from Olaf Benz or Manstore.. Sometimes the thongs from others really don't fit wel.

Hope the stigma is going to disappear soon. Just don't see why people can't let eachother wear what they prefer without judging..

I am a boy of 28 years and use boxers, briefs, jocks and thongs. I completely agree on the use of thongs for the summer. Simply the best. Of course one should take into account when buying one, the fabric, shape and fit. Is unfortunate that the stigma of society does not allow men who like to use, or have curiosity to try.

In my post about thongs feeling like toilet paper, I didn't mean to imply they were bad for everyone. There are both men and women who love them, more power to them! The brand I have is Jockey, so I may try CKU or another brand. I once had a mate who would only wear Jockey white briefs, and while he looked great in them, he wouldn't even try other kinds of underwear.

Agreed! Variety in colour, fabric, and cut makes life much, much, more interesting! There are plenty of different fits when it comes to thongs, so unfort. it is largely a case of trial and error in finding one that is best for you.

Yes I would agree. A lot of thongs really is trial and error. I didn't like them initially, but the more I've tried the more I like them. Some brands more than others. And I think it really is a personal thing. What brand works for one may not work for another.

I think they are the perfect style for all occasions an IMO there are no down sides to them. They offer GREAT support and control for everyday wear or for sport, they are comfy and cool to wear.

It is all I wear both during the day and to sleep in.

The more I wear thongs, the more I like them. And the ones that fit well are the most comfortable underwear I've ever had. I wear them to bed every night now as well.

I wear thongs everyday and for work (Pilates & Yoga teacher) to sleep in, it is down to each persons choise as to what they wear and like most guys say one fabric or brand may work for one (me it is Gregg homme, Joe Snyder and few others) but they might not be right for the next guy. I say wear what you want and enjoy and feel comfy in what ever you wear!!

Thanks Nick (Watford UK)

A well fitting thong is absolutely the most comfortable underwear imaginable. Conversely, a badly fitting thong can be almost unbearable! The more I wear thongs the more I like them (thankfully, as does my wife). In fact, I now wear little else and enjoy the freedom and support that a thong can give.

Sadly, I reckon all too many men rule out wearing thongs before they have tried them (seeing them as purely an item of women's clothing). If only they knew what they were missing, they would convert to thongs in an instant.

I wear thongs only and the reason why is that its very very comfortable especially during my running and gym sessions...

I love wearing thongs when I go for my run. They hold everything in place, and are hot to wear too. My favorite is a dark blue Joe Synder thong--I find it comfortable and well made thong.

I wear thong underwear almost exclusively. They're comfortable, support the boys and stay put. Thong swim suits are great in private pools and some beaches.

2x1st have to be the most comfortable thongs, or as we call them here in Australia, g-string. I agree with the fact that not all thongs are the same, some are uncomfortable but I can assure you there are plenty out there much more comfortable then normal briefs

i used to wear briefs untill i discovered thongs for men, now thats all i wear, even thong bathing suits. they are comfortable if you get the right size and depends on material, some can cut or burn, i try to avoid those type.

I have worn thongs for years. If you have tried only one or two brands and did not like them, you need to expand your search. Look at other makes on the web & try a few choosing fabrics and styles carefully. They are NOT all the same. I have a variety, have used them as underwear that is particularly comfortable. I have also used swim thongs at the beach. Great sunning suits! Great swimming suits.More freedom.

I'm also like your friend I only wear thongs. I feel they look good they hold everything in place. Tighty whities and boxes make you look like an old man here they're not sexy. Those are beautiful to wear I enjoy them the women that I know have no problem with it. And I'm not answering this anonymously cuz I'm not afraid. If you're strong man you can do whatever it is you want to do. What's the dumb crap society has put in your head. Tell you men should have hair under their arms they should wear boxers. And all the other crap that society puts you labels on and tries to steer you like a sheep. Liberating yourself feel free to do other things outside the box.
