I like Target just as much as the next man, it's a great place to get a good deal. But when it comes to buying my underwear there, I have just written it off as not a good place. I've thought of it as cheap, lacking in quality, boring and not stylish. I've thought of them as just selling the generics (Hanes, FTL, etc.), nothing special. Well, in the past few weeks I've been browsing their underwear collection online, and I've got to say, they've changed it up quite a bit. I am very impressed. Yes it's still cheap (I don't know about the quality) but it's no longer boring and it has lots of style. Some of their best offerings are from Mossimo. They have some great briefs which remind me a lot of American Apparel's briefs (only they are even cheaper at Target). They also offer some great Mossimo boxerbriefs in a variety of prints and patterns: Scorpions, Camo, and my favorite one with a Monkey (shown). I cannot attest to the quality of any of these stylish drawers yet, but I can attest to the price. I doubt you will get anything with such style at a lower price; you seriously cannot beat $5.99 (the price for most of the stylish underwear at Target). So next time you are looking for some stylish underwear on a budget, hit up Target.com (I don't think that they offer most of the stylish stuff in stores).

Oscars Underwear Exposure Correction

Yesterday I posted that no one dropped their pants at the Oscars, I was wrong! Yes, yes someone DID drop their pants (not completely) to expose a bit of their underwear. The man in question was none other than American Idol host Ryan Seacrest. Although I didn't see this live on TV I heard from a few reliable sources that while interviewing on the Red Carpet he was prompted to tell viewers his underwear of choice for the evening. Instead of simply telling viewers he exposed his waistband to the cameras. What was seen was white with gray text, most likely Calvin Klein. It is uncertain what style, boxerbriefs, briefs, thong? My guess would be boxerbriefs (he seems like a bb kind of guy). So I stand corrected about no underwear exposures at the Oscars. Calvin Klein is really popping up everywhere, who knows who will show theirs next.

Underwear Models at the Oscars

Tonight was the Academy Awards. No, no, no one dropped their pants. But there were (at least) two men present who are both men's underwear models, and both for Calvin Klein. The first is Mark Wahlberg (shown), who I'd like to mention as a rapper and on the cover of U.S.A. Weekend for today proudly flaunts his boxers (OK well the cover on USA Weekend was just a peek, but you could tell). The second is Djimon Hounsou (nominated for best supporting actor in "Blood Diamond"), a little unexpected, right? Well according to this New York Times article he will be the upcoming Calvin Klein Steel line in August. I have never heard of this line before, but I can't wait to find out what it's like, so I'll be on the look-out for that and be sure you all know about it when it comes out. Hounsou says that "Representing such an iconic American brand like Calvin Klein Underwear signifies to me that I have been accepted,”. It is true, CK has become an icon in the men's underwear world and in American culture in general. Just thought this was a timely piece.

New Jameswinston Model!

All of you are probably already aware of Jameswinston Co. if you have been reading UB for any period of time. I'm sure many of you have noticed that Jameswinston previously took a unique technique with their models by using a very industrial looking mannequin, but that is the case no longer. Jameswinston now has a full-fledged human model, and I've got to say, the shots look great. The model's name is Sasha Popovic. Sasha is not actually a model by profession, but he makes a great one. New Dolce and Gabbana Underwear!

Dolce and Gabbana is one of the top clothing designers out there. I have been a fan of their underwear for quite some time; ever since I first put on a pair. They are very comfortable and stylish, and while they are expensive they won't totally break the bank. Freshpair, one of my favorite sources for getting lots of variety in fashionable underwear, very recently changed their line-up of Dolce and Gabbana underwear. I liked what they offered before, but I really like what they have on offer now. They have the Bold Brando style brief (shown in white) and the Combat Corto Trunk (also shown). I really like both of these new styles and for different reasons. The Bold Brando brief is very flashy and in your face and I really like the bold new waistband design. The camo trunk is not as bold, but is still very stylish and unique. You'll be sure to get second looks while wearing (and showing) both of these new styles from Dolce and Gabbana.

I'm sure many of you are already aware of this, but just in case you are not I will give you some background. HIV/AIDS has been needlessly ravishing through Africa. Although there is no cure to HIV/AIDS there are ways to prevent it from spreading and to alleviate some of the pain it causes. James Bond spurs heightened underwear sales in the UK

According to this article at People UK "the Daniel Craig effect" has had a huge influence on sales in men's underwear. People are snapping up padded underwear so they or their men will look their best. According to David Walker-Smith, head of menswear at Selfridges in London's Oxford Street, "We've seen a 150 per cent increase in sales of men's underwear this month - and tellingly the best seller has been the package enhancing Aussiebum Patriot pant." Wow, that's quite an influence. I'm not sure how credible the source is, but it's something that I never thought about. It really is amazing how much influence celebrities have over the people who idolize them. It's really interesting how just a few images (shown) of a hunky celebrity in tight swimwear can cause such a surge in underwear purchases. It's something to think about.

DT Clothes review

DT Clothes has brought to you many fun printed drawers for quite a few years. In fact they have already had a name change (they were formerly known as DT Jocks). DT Clothes is a well established and avant-garde underwear company that in many ways is ahead of its time. For instance, they are the first and the only company to bring you fully customizable underwear in their create your own section. Recently they have redesigned their website to include a new design and new styles such as: jockstraps, x-front briefs, loose boxers (a compromise between boxer shorts and boxer briefs), lounge pants, shirts, fully customizable underwear, and even a women's line coming soon (although that will not be blogged about much here for obvious reasons). I have posted about DT Clothes many times, and finally I have the opportunity to sample their ware and review it here. So let's just jump right in.

I sampled the buzz jockstrap. Before I talk about how it felt and how it fit I just want to preface that with the fact that I have never before worn a jockstrap so I really don't have any prior experiences to compare it to. I am very jockstrap illiterate you might say, which you may find odd considering that I know so much about all other types of underwear. But everyone can learn more about things, even the experts (including underwear experts).

The jockstrap fit quite well, the straps fit on quite well and after an initial adjustment (i.e. putting it on) they did not need any re-adjusting throughout the day. I have heard people complain sometimes about the straps of a jock twisting up during the day, but these did not do that. My only complaint about the fit is that the straps were a little tight (they did stretch out a bit though after some wear), this may be that I have never worn one before, but I have noticed with other DT underwear that it fits a little small. So keep that in mind when buying, you may want to buy a size up.

The comfort was great, other than the initial getting used to a jock it was fine. It really is a nice feeling to be completely supported up front and completely free in the back. This jock also has a great feature that allows for great comfort. This feature is the fact that it has a decent sized pouch that allows for one to be flaccid or erect without pulling the straps or the pouch out of place, thus readjustments are never needed. According to Wikipedia (under the Fashion Jock section of Jockstrap), this style of pouch is known as flopper. This may be incorrect, but as I've said I'm jockstrap illiterate, so correct me if I'm wrong. The point is: the pouch not only allows for comfort while flaccid (if it only allowed for comfort while flaccid it would be called a microjock, or so I've read) but it also allows for comfort while erect. So two thumbs up on the comfort.

The style is what really sets this jockstrap apart. Most people may have the preconceived notion that jockstraps are only meant for sports. That is wrong. This truly is a fashion jock, I'm sure it would support just as well in sports as an athletic jock would, but it is really meant to be a fashion statement. The waistband is the normal width of most underwear and the leg straps are much thinner than those of athletic jocks. Also, as I previously mentioned, the pouch is large enough to be comfortable when accommodation is necessary. In fact, the way these look from the front (without seeing them from the back) they could easily be mistaken for a tanga or an athletic brief (the kind with no sides). Also, one of my favorite details of this jockstrap is a tiny logo tag on the center of the back of the waistband. This little detail really adds a lot to them, especially since the back of the waistband has a tendency (as all jockstraps have) to ride up over pants due to the fact that it is not held down in any way in the middle, and thus the logo detailing shows. DT clothes' jockstrap is really very stylish and will help bring an extra (and unexpected) punch to your underwear wardrobe.

Just like all other DT clothes underwear, this jock is of great quality and is well worth the price.

Overall, DT really gave me a great first experience wearing a jockstrap as daily underwear and it was so good that I would not hesitate to do it again.

Frank Dandy Superwear

Frank Dandy Superwear is a great line that I just ran across recently. I'm not sure how long they have been around, but their only current offering is the Winter 06/07 collection. Frank Dandy's motto is "expect the unexpected", and it really is true. If you drop your pants while wearing these people will be surprised (in a good way). The styling and attention to detail on this underwear is really fun. There's a lot of flowery and beachy patterns in the collection, but they are all very masculine. As you may remember I reviewed the aussieBum patriot a while back. My only main complaint was that it was only available in briefs and that it was too.. well patriotic.
