Björn Borg at Mensunderwear.nl

I have two great new things to tell you about today. The first is fantastic new underwear store that is based in the Netherlands. It is mensunderwear.nl. They offer lots of great brands, including: 2(x)ist, Body Art, Bruno Banani, Calvin Klein, Chevignon, DIM, HOM, Unico, Nikos A., Punto Blanco, Schlesser, Sloggi, and Björn Borg. Out of all of these I am possibly most intrigued by the Björn Borg. I have never actually seen this brand anywhere else, which is probably why it intrigues me the most. It is a really fun and great brand. In the photo you can see the Björn Borg new style boxer. This boxer is really fun and comes in a lot of fun colors and print varieties. I really like the whole Björn Borg collection that is available at Mensunderwear.nl, so check it out now.

Artificial Flavor Reviewed

For quite a while I have been giving you quite a bit of info on the brand Artificial Flavor. It really is a great brand and is well worth buying. They just launched a brand new collection that includes over 40 new styles. Currently, this collection is only available at International Jock (as far as I can tell). Although John Vitti (founder of AFlavor) promises that they will be up on their official site soon. The collection includes 6 different types of styling of underwear (in briefs and trunks). The new part is there is one new style (the "bandito") and the classic styles are in a lot of fun, new, spring colors. Also, they have added loungewear that includes trackpants or lounge pants and sweatshirts. The whole collection is very fantastically styled and works seamlessly together. I am happy to say that I have had the opportunity to try out some of their collection. I did not try out the new colors, but I am assured that they fit and feel the exact same way (with one exception, that I will discuss later). For the purposes of this review I am going to talk about the trunk (all the trunks are the same, but just in case you really are curious, I am basing this off the camel "trickster").

Now down to business... The trunk fits superbly. It is one of those trunks that isn't too short and isn't too long. It's not quite a brief or even a square-cut brief, but it's also not long enough to seem too much like a sliding short. The inseam is very short (I'd say no more than 2") and the rise is very low; therefore it just perfectly covers all the pivotal parts. Basically, it is the perfect cut for a trunk. It also doesn't fit too tight or too loosely. AFlavor has used pretty much the perfectly elasticity to not constrict but still give shape to a man's body.

These trunks are pretty much perfect in terms of comfort. They move with your body but still hug it closely enough so you feel supported and have the cottony goodness against your skin. The only problem is the tag. The tag has a tendency to itch because it is not a very good design. But I'm not going to go into the problems with the design of the tag because I have already brought this up with John Vitti and he informed me that they redesigned the way the tag is made for the new line. So if you buy your Artificial Flavor undies now, you won't have any tag problems. And besides, I noticed that the tag itchiness was alleviated after a couple washes. (But I still must mark down in terms of points for this since I have not actually experienced the ones with the revised tag.)

The style. Wow, what can I say. The retro fit and inspiration is truly... inspirational. The creativity and attention to detail in the design of Artificial Flavor underwear is truly superb. From the wide array of fashionable colors to the matching loungewear. From the logo patch on the outside, to the covered elastic waistband that is exposed on the inside (to reveal a stylish logo motif). The style of this whole line is really great and unique with a lot of personality that is sure to add personality to your wardrobe.

The quality of Artificial Flavor is excellent. As I said, the attention to detail is fantastic. These truly are briefs that will last you a lifetime (if you so choose and if you follow the washing directions). They are a little pricey, but considering all the use you can get out of them, the cost is very reasonable. So if Artificial Flavor has not yet found a place in your underwear drawer, you should help them find one soon.

New Buying Resource: DeadGoodUndies

DeadGoodUndies is a new underwear buying site. It is launched by the same website and undies expert, Adam Davies, who created JustHom. The reason this site was created is because in the very first year of running JustHom it was clear that they could not contain their business to just one brand, but due to the branding issues, they could not simply add more brands to the JustHom site. Thus DeadGoodUndies, or DGU, was created. For those of you who are not familiar with British English, "dead good " means "very good". Some of the brands that DGU offers that they could not offer on JustHom include: Impetus, Strellson, Sloggi for Men, Bruno Banani, Mey, Jameswinston Co., and of course HOM. They have carefully choosen which particular styles of underwear they stock from all these brands, and they truly have choosen the best of each of them. Also, in the development of DGU, Adam and company came up with a lot of great new features as well as ways to implement some of the great features already offered at JustHom. They really made a concerted effort to make their site as user friendly as possible. They continued the loyalty point system that allows you to collect points from your purchases which can then be used towards discounts on future purchases. Cricket Syndicate review

Cricket Syndicate is one of the most unique lines of underwear that I've ever worn. Their underwear has a pouch insert that is made from T-shirts (many of which are retro). I've blogged about the history of the company before so read that here.

First, I have to start by saying that Cricket Syndicate doesn't actually make a size that is meant to fit me (I'm a little too small for their smallest size). That said, the pair that I tried (the one with the frog, shown) fit pretty well. The Cricket Syndicate box-cuts, for me, fit like a cross between boxerbriefs and boxer shorts (a tight boxer short). But normally they should fit like boxerbriefs (based on the photos on their site). But that aside, the fit is very good. It is a very interesting cut, which for the most part fits very well. But sometimes, the center back seam rides up a bit into the crack and thus adjustments are necessary (although this problem could possibly be attributed to the fact that they are not entirely the correct size and thus they ride up). But besides this small problem, they are very comfortable. They feel just like wearing a nice, soft, old T-shirt (which is technically what they are, minus the old part). The more you wash these briefs, the softer they get. And don't worry, your skin won't touch the part that was originally from a T-shirt because the pouch is double-lined (although I think that the T-shirts are old but unworn, sort of retro remainders or something). Another fun part about these briefs is the top-stitching. It is very fun and unique and adds to the popular "unfinished" look of the briefs. But to help hold the briefs up, there is an elastic waistband sewn onto the inside (like what is done in many boxer shorts). And to add to the overall comfort, there are no tags (just a stamp on the inside of the waistband). I really love the style of these briefs, they're so unique and so fashionable. These briefs are so unique and unexpected that they could really be your next conversation starter (I'm serious!). They are a little on the expensive side; but for such a unique piece that is sold in limited editions, it is well worth it. The exposed seams and fun colors in combination with the printed (T-shirt) pouch make these briefs an essential to every man's underwear drawer.

New Underwear Blogs

In browsing the web I've run across a few more underwear blogs to tell you about. But with all these underwear blogs popping up all over the web today, it is important to remember that this blog was THE FIRST!

Underwear Fanatic: This is a fairly new blog that started in January. It is run by two guys who are into underwear and swimwear. It's pretty much like this blog and UD.

Hot Underwear For Guys: This is also a fairly new blog (I believe it started in December). The about page just states "We explore and examine the latest and hottest underwear for guys." I'm not totally sure what this blog's niche is, but it's worth a look (it hasn't been updated very recently though).

Topdrawers Underwear: This is probably my favorite of the three, it is very unique (although a little similar to the Mensuas blog). They talk about all the new stuff going on at their online retail site, Topdrawers.

I've added all these blogs to the sidebar so you can easily access them at a later date.

Hey guys. In earlier entries the blog used to get lots of comments and lots of great discussions on most of the entries. Recently that has not been the case, even though I know for sure that there are a lot more readers now than before. I really want to know what your opinions are on things that are discussed here, even if your comment doesn't totally fit the entry, just post it. I really want to see some good discussions going.

WildmanT does it again!

Yet again, WildmanT has released another great looking product. This new product is the two-toned bikini (shown in pale pink). As Tim (the founder of WildmanT) states in his blog entry, it is his favorite style yet out of the collection. I'm not quite sure which one is my favorite, frankly I like the way they all look. I really won't be able to decide which is my fav until I get to try them out (which will hopefully be very soon). But I've got to say, for such a new company, Tim is really doing a great job in getting the word out and getting lots of great products out quickly. In fact, Tim also stated on his blog that he is planning to get the second half of the first line out next month! I can't wait.

New Play Underwear Only at Malebasics...

Click here to see the selection that MaleBasics has to offer. I'm not really sure if these are exclusively at MaleBasics or not, but that's what they say. I actually think that the exclusive part is buy 2 pairs of play and get 3 free songs. But any way, it's a good deal, especially if you like your music. I'm especially liking the looks of the mini mesh underwear and jock.

Calida Bodywear Review

I have recently purchased a new pair of underwear from a company called CALIDA BODYWEAR at Sierra Trading Post. The company is based in Switzerland, and out of all the underwear bounty made available by the WWW, that fact is what intrigued me enough to buy from them. (of course since they were discounted 52%, I was more willing to fork over $9.95) The styles available are classically European. The pair I purchased is a full cut “slip,” what we would call a sport brief or bikini brief. The garment is well made out of 100% jersey cotton, and it has a slight pouch design in the front, which is double-lined. The light blue color with thin multicolored vertical stripes is great too. (I am especially partial to stripes) The fit for this brief is, of course, classic as well, full bottom, full rise, and a flattening effect to the front. This may seem like a contradiction to what I mentioned about the front shape, but nevertheless that is the effect. How well it fits is a matter of preference. It does exactly as it is designed to do; I just feel that it’s a dated look. It’s possible that the fabric will relax after several wears since it is 100% cotton.

If you are looking to buy from sierratradingpost.com, (where the sale is) be advised that there is a bit of miss-information. On the site they have posted that the fabric is a blend; it is not. They also have the sizing all wrong. I bought a size small, which they listed as 30in. The size chart on the package itself lists USA sizes S = 36, M = 38/40, L = 42/44, XL = 46, XXL = 48. Obviously the sizing runs quite large. I’m very glad I didn’t buy the medium, and as it is the small is almost too big. Plan accordingly.

Overall, I give the Calida brief a total score of 8 based on the following criteria:

STYLE -- 8.5 (out of 10) (the stripes are cool)

Our Second Anniversary!

Today marks the second anniversary of Men's Underwear Blog. It seems like only yesterday that I was writing the first post. But amazingly it was two years ago. I've come a long way since then and my knowledge has grown exponentially, hopefully yours has too. Thank you very much to all you dedicated readers who diligently read all my posts and write comments and take my recommendations seriously. I really enjoy all the emails I get and I would love to hear more from you , don't be shy, feel free to comment (there is always an anonymous option). In fact, there will be fun bonuses for those who comment and send emails, so now is the time to go back and comment on those entries that you didn't comment on before (make sure I have a way to contact you by email). As a thank you to all my readers, I am going to have some fun stuff going on throughout the next few months and I will be doing lots to make this blog more user friendly and fun. Happy Saint Patty's Day

Ahh... the luck of the Irish. Saint Patty's day. Great day to be Irish. Everyone is Irish on Saint Patrick's day, even if you're not the other 364 days of the year. Today is a great day to get drunk, get lucky, and wear green. Where can you wear green? Why everywhere, yes even your underwear. Hopefully you already have some great green undies on, but if you don't you better change quickly. If you aren't wearing green you are a prime candidate for being pinched (I have no idea where this tradition comes from).
