aussieBum Spunk Video

This is a leaked video for an upcoming collection from aussieBum that was to be titled "Spunk". The word on the street is that this collection is going to be retitled because of the obvious connotations of the word 'spunk' (if you don't know what I'm getting at check UrbanDictionary). The video does make the double entendre of the name pretty clear with the use of the white splatters across the screen. The text says "All I want is your spunk" in case you can't read it. What do you think? Should aussieBum just leave the collection titled Spunk or are they right to want to change it?

For most products it would be pushing the envelope because it is a sexual connotation to the commercial.

On the other hand, most of Aussiebum commercials are marketed with sexual gay undertones so this commercial isn't terribly off base, even though they run the risk of alienating more of their straight clientèle, because Aussiebum is more of a mainstream underwear brand (like 2-xist and Calvin Klein).

I personally am not offended by the commercial, but I see why the corporation would want to change the marketing.

I think they could call it "Junk" instead. Like the Junk collection. And you already have the guy standing in an alleyway with splatters of paint everywhere, why not somewhere near a dumpster or something? Have hit hold a spray can (because the model is already being portrayed as a bad boy), and go with that image. I think that it will keep the gay undertones, without alienating possible straight clientèle.

^_^ Oh, what a thin line it is. ;)

It's not like they are calling it jizz or seed. lol, Aussie Bum is classy. As classy as you can get with underwear. They don't turn their ads into porn. They keep it real.

LOL Jim. Great thoughts aren't they =)

I'm betting it wouldn't even make it to American television... but then again I don't recall seeing a whole lot of underwear adverts anyway.

If they dropped the paint splatter I think it would be better. No need to be so obvious on the meaning. Spunk in America could imply a spunky attitude, quirky even and of course... uhm... you know.

aussieBum is quite classy, at least as far as underwear companies can go (as another reader said).

As for the new name, I have word that they will be calling this line 'hunk' when it launches.
