A New Classic - aussieBum Lockerboy Reviewed

It's been a long time since I've written a review, I guess I just haven't found much worth talking about in a while. But recently I've stumbled across what I believe is a new classic from aussieBum. Today I'm going to be reviewing the new(ish) Lockerboy range from aussieBum.

If you've been following us for any period of time, you'll know that here at MUB we love aussieBum. They are always innovative, stylish and above all else comfy. So it came as no surprise when I received a sample package from them recently that there was a LOT of great new undies in there. So hard to decide what to wear and review first. I chose the Lockerboy range to talk about first because I believe that these are what I call a new classic, truly everyone can wear and enjoy these undies.

For the purpose of this review I tried out their hipster trunks. I have also tried their lockerboy briefs and have equal amounts of praise for those as well. The fit of these trunks is superb, not too long and not too short. The right length that a modest guy will feel comfortable in these, but at the same time a guy who likes to be a little sexier won't feel too covered up. The cut of these conform nicely to the male curves, making a very simple design look very luxe. The pouch seems to have an enhancing factor as well, it holds your package a bit away from the body making it look larger.

Along with the superb fit, the comfort is also on point. The fabric is a nice mid-weight cotton/elastane blend so they are soft and smooth to the touch. As is standard with aussieBum, the waistband is thin and lays flat with a soft, comfy interior. Unlike many brands that opt for tagless designs, aussieBum uses pillow tags on the waistband interior. But don't worry, it's so well done you won't even know it's there! I think one of the keys to comfort with these undies is that they don't have elastic bands around the legs, instead aussieBum has opted for a comfortable folded over design. This still holds the legs in place, while allowing for movement.

The style of these is definitely what many would consider to be basic, but that's why I like them. They're simple, attractive, but they aren't trying too hard. So many things out right now are trying to be the next big, trendy thing and they just miss with over-the-top style that no one actually wants to wear. You'll want to wear these over and over again because they are classic. With these aussieBum has taken classic men's underwear designs and modernized them with some splashes of color, but they haven't taken it too far. These will look as good five years from now as they do today (although we do recommend you replace your undies more frequently).

As for quality, aussieBum always makes high quality underwear. These wash great in the washing machine repeatedly without fading, stretching, tearing or any of the other nasty things that happen to lesser quality underwear when washed. So yes they're $23 a pair, which is a little expensive for something so simple. But they're worth it. You will get so much wear out of these, seriously go buy them!

MY RATING:
Overall, I give the aussieBum Lockerboy Hipster a total score of 9 based on the following criteria:
FIT -- 10 (out of 10) - Superb fit. Conforms to all the male curves.
COMFORT -- 10 (out of 10) - Luxe, you won't want to take them off. Great fabric and waistband.
STYLE -- 9.5 (out of 10) - Classic with modern colors.
QUALITY -- 10 (out of 10) - Great attention to detail. Washes and wears well.
VALUE -- 8 (out of 10) - A little pricey for a basic, but you will get a lot of use out of them.

Bum Chums on My Bum - A Review

Hey boys, it's been a while since I've done a review.  Today I want to share with you some of my favorite briefs as of late. The briefs in question come from Bum Chums, a relatively new British brand.  I profiled them in January, and one point that I'd like to highlight again here is that unlike many other brands, Bum Chums doesn't farm out their manufacturing but instead makes everything locally in Yorkshire, England. This really makes a difference.

I tried out the Fruity hip briefs in blue-berry.  They also come in a couple other bright, vibrant colors like cherry red, pink peach, lemon lush, and plum purple.  The fit and fabric of these are the two main reasons I love these briefs so much.  They are what is known as a hip brief.  They hit you right on the hip.  They're not too high and not too low.  The leg cut outs are higher than a fuller rise brief.  The pouch space is ample but not too much that it's baggy.  Same goes for the bum.  I have a rather small bum but the fabric still contours to my curves without sagging.  But it will also stretch to accomodate more of a bubble butt.  The briefs fit true to size.  They really kept the modern man in mind when cutting this patten.

These briefs are super comfy and great for a variety of activities as well as just everyday wear.  The fabric is thicker than most briefs, but it actually works very well.  I feel well covered by these and the weight of the fabric is nice.  But they're not too weighty and they still breathe well in the summer. The entire front actually has a double layer, which helps the brief keep its shape and hold all your goods in place.  The feel of the fabric is due to the unique nylon/elastane/lycra blend that they use.  They've created a really unique fabric unlike any I've seen before, and it really works.  The waistband is likewise thicker than usual to match, but is oh-so-soft.  The interior tag is basically a sticker stuck to the waistband.  It falls off in the wash, but I recommend just removing it right away (I think you're supposed to actually).  The leg bands are perfect; I never even notice them.  In fact I really don't notice these briefs at all other than the fact that I feel supported and not flopping around all day.

As for the style?  Like I said they're far from a classic cut.  They're really made for the modern man to work with modern clothes (like low-rise jeans).  The style really comes from the unique hip cut of these.  And the fun colors don't hurt.  They're very stylish but understated, I think any man would feel comfortable wearing these.

These undies are very high quality.  I've had mine for almost a year now (this review is long overdue, sorry) and they're just like the day I got them.  Seriously.  And these are one of my go-to briefs too, so they do get a fair amount of wear.  For around $26 USD a pop these are well worth it.  Get them!

MY RATING:
Overall, I give the Bum Chums Hip Brief a total score of 8.5 based on the following criteria:
FIT -- 9 (out of 10) - Awesome modern hip fit.  Perfect for the modern man.
COMFORT -- 9 (out of 10) - I don't even notice they're there.
STYLE -- 8 (out of 10) - The style comes from the unique cut.  Modern.  Colorful.
QUALITY -- 10 (out of 10) - Like the day I got them after a year of wear.
VALUE -- 9 (out of 10) - Well priced, especially for the quality.  Get them!

A Flavorful Review

I recently got some new underwear in the mail from Artificial Flavor. They are from their new Military Patch Collection, I got a pair of Corporal Briefs and a pair of Corporal Hipsters. The briefs are an army green color and the hipsters are in a brown color, but they also come in navy blue.

I first tried the briefs, they are very comfortable and pretty darn sexy with their thin front which shows a perfect outline of the package, while giving gentle cupping support. The briefs "melt" to the body so they become even more comfortable the longer you wear them, almost feeling like a second skin.

Next I tried the hipsters which I liked, but I found the longer I would wear them, my junk would start to fall down one of the legs, which is never a good thing. But the design of the hipster is pretty perfect other than needing a larger pouch in the front to hold everything. The hipsters are seamless in the front so it also shows a perfect outline of the stuff.

Both designs feature military patches on the side which is a pretty cool feature. I would have to say overall I love both pair of underwear, my only problem was I love the look of them so much I was always tempted to wear them with out any pants over them. I would recommend these to a guy who likes to keep it sexy, sporty and trendy. The briefs go for #29.00 (US) at AFlavor.com, and the hipsters are $32.50 (US).
