Models Drop Trou with "Jingle Balls" for Kmart

In an effort to be relevant this holiday season, Kmart just released a new holiday ad in which male models drop trou to reveal their Joe Boxer boxers.  They then proceed to do a rendition of "Jingle Bells" using their balls as bells (in the style of a bell chorus).  How clever. The ad is a little cheesy at best, and the models sadly keep their shirts on.  So all you get to see is a lot of leg, and models awkwardly swinging their hips. Too bad they aren't wearing briefs, or at least some variety of styles. Seriously, I don't think boxers are nearly as ubiquitous anymore as this ad would have you think.

What are your thoughts on this attempt at a sexy holiday ad from Kmart?  Hot or not?

Fruit Of The Loom Gets Social!

According to advertising blog PSFK, underwear giant Fruit of the Loom is launching a new social media campaign.  The campaign is hyper interactive and looks to refresh the perception of the brand by getting in your pants again.

Fruit of the Loom is teaming up with social media site LinkedIn to give new undies to people who recently started a new job according to their profile.  The promotion is dubbed "Fresh Gigs" and is part of their "Start Happy" campaign.  The idea is that with a fresh new job, people can use fresh new clothes (especially underwear) to go with it.  PSFK reports eligible LinkedIn members will receive a message and have the option to choose their size and favorite style.  The free undies will then arrive after a couple weeks with a coupon to go and get more FTL undies.  The New York Times reports that the campaign will be offered to 5,000 LinkedIn users a week for five weeks.  And of course they are encouraging people to get super social with their new undies by tweeting using the hashtag #StartHappy.

I just switched up my day job recently, so I'm hoping I'll be offered a pair.  Let us know if you do receive an offer from Fruit of the Loom, we'd love to learn more about it!

Sound off:
What are your thoughts on this campaign?  Would you share your underwear choices on social media? Does this campaign change your perception of Fruit of the Loom?

NY Times Talks about Shift in Underwear Ads

Watch this video from the New York times about a shift in men's underwear advertising.  They discuss a shift from the hyper-sexualized male ideal to a more relatable guy in underwear advertisements.  Have you noticed this shift?  I think I've definitely seen a change in some underwear advertising recently.  The ads are more quarky and fun and not as much about the sex.  But then again look at Andrew Christian; the sex is definitely still out there.  The truth is and always has been, sex sells.  So sure maybe some companies are switching up underwear ads, but does it work?   What sells you (or doesn't sell you) on underwear when you're shopping?  Let's get the conversation rolling boys.

Fruit of the Loom Ad: Rings

Just saw this Fruit of the Loom ad on TV and I have to say I'm unimpressed. Now it's not just because I'm biased against boxers (which I am). Seriously I didn't even know what they were selling. The guy has a great body, but these boxers aren't remotely flattering on him. In fact I didn't even know what they were selling and I certainly didn't realize they were his undies. And now that I realize what they're selling, I certainly don't want it.  Do guys actually wear stuff that looks this bad on them and want to look this way?

What are your thoughts on this commercial? Discuss.

H&M Unveils Giant Statues of Beckham

Earlier this year H&M launched a range of undies in cooperation with David Beckham.  Honestly I thought the range would never take off.  But I was wrong, not only has it taken off, they are now doing a HUGE marketing campaign involving large silver statues of the Becks.  From now until August 31, nine 11-foot-tall statues of the soccer superstar are stationed across New York City (6 statues), LA (2), and San Francisco (1).  The statues are certainly inspired by Michelangelo's David and are modeled after the H&M campaign shots for the line.  Unlike the original David statue though, these (of course) have Beckham wearing his signature underwear.

To further involvement, H&M will give away a $1000 shopping spree.  To win, you just have to take your picture with one of the statues and upload it to Instagram with the hashtag #HMBeckham.  So there you have it.

What are your thoughts on the new Beckham statues?  We'd love to see your pictures with the statues!

Phelps Stars in new Louis Vuitton Ad

Now that the London Olympics have come to a close, it's only right that the athletes keep their buzz going.  What better for superstars like Michael Phelps to keep up their spotlight than through starring in ads and endorsements.  This time Phelps branches off from the norm in this new campaign for Louis Vuitton.  The ad may be the start of a new direction for both Phelps and the French fashion house.  Of course we've seen Phelps strip down to his swim suit before, but here he is a little more seductive than usual.  Check out Phelps in all his hunky glory.

What are your thoughts on this new ad campaign?  Do you want to see more of Phelps or do you just wish he'd go away for a while?
