Athlete Jock - A New Classic

Over the past couple of years a new style has been born that is a hybrid of jockstrap and brief, I've been calling it the jockstrap brief.  It is basically a jockstrap but with the straps made of the same, continuous brief fabric.  Baskit started this trend with their ribbed jockbrief.  Timoteo took it last year and remade it with their sport collection.  And now Timoteo is doing it again and reworking their own style and, as they phrase it, updating a classic.  This new Athlete Jock, as they're calling it, is available in a number of brief colors such as turquoise and fuchsia as well as yellow and camouflage. 

I still haven't had the chance to try this style.  But the new title for the style, athlete jock, leads me to believe that they are really pushing for these to become sports underwear.  Not having tried it, I can't say how well this would work.  But I'd be willing to give it a go. What's your take on this?  Have you worn this for sports? What's your experience? 

Model to Mogul

Soccer star turned underwear model David Beckham has decided not to return as Armani’s underwear front man. Instead he’s taking charge and getting his own underwear line with Armani. This makes sense since underwear sales have soared for the company since they signed Beckham to be their international ambassador of fashion. Plus he is married to another Armani underwear notable former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham. No doubt she has had a hand in the rise of her husband's success within the fashion industry. Connections are very important. Of course that’s not to say David doesn’t have what it takes on his own, let’s face it the man is gorgeous and he has talent. Beckham started playing soccer professionally when he was only 17 and through his time in the game has offered his skills to a variety of teams in as many countries. He now plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy and is a huge power behind popularizing the sport in America, the last country to embrace the sport apparently. Beckham has had a similar effect in the fashion industry. It was a long held belief that a man who made fashion and looking good a priority in his life had to be gay. Beckham was a key player in the coining of the phrase “metrosexual” meaning a straight man who took the time and energy to look good. Men took notice and thought David Beckham is an athlete, and a good one at that, with a hot wife and a lot of money so if he looks like that maybe I should too. David Beckham has been a godsend for all men!

Now he’s taking it to the next level. And hopefully he will still be the eye candy in the trunks he puts out, but either way I am sure he will succeed. We don’t know yet what design this underwear line is going to take but it will probably be along the lines of Armani’s collections that come out now. And knowing the Beckham style they will most likely be quite manly and have a sleek style all Metro Men will want. Beckham brought style to men around the world who were lacking it, and now he’s going to make sure they recognize this means their underwear too. So be on the lookout because soon we all can have David in our pants!

Tiger Underwear Survey + Catalog Update

Tiger Underwear is planning on making new multicolored briefs and they want your input on which color patterns you like best. So head on over to their online survey and vote on your favorites. Your votes won't exclusively decide what gets made, but they'll help the folks at Tiger Underwear know what is popular and hopefully they'll choose what you like. Also, I've just been informed that Tiger Underwear has updated their site with new photos. So if you haven't been by recently you might want to check that out as well. There's some new models on their site and a brand new summer catalog.

Stonemen: coming soon..

I told you about the Stonemen brand a while back. Now I have a little more info and an image to share with you. Stonemen is all about graphic prints on underwear (shown, horse print). When they first go online they will have 7 hipster briefs available immediately. Then there will be another 5 pairs, and 6 pairs of boxerbriefs in June. And if all goes well thermals, boxers, and socks are planned for later. So be on the look-out for this exciting new brand. We'll keep you posted here at MUB.

Cricket Syndicate Update

The Cricket Syndicate site is currently down for construction. It looks as though the long-awaited (and much delayed) Cricket Clones will be coming soon! The Clones are going to be screen-printed briefs. So stay tuned to M.U.B. for updates.

The Face of Flapkat

Flapkat has finally found its face. You may remember this post where I mentioned that Flapkat was looking for guys to model their wear. They have now found their man, David White. The photo shoot took place at the beginning of this month, so more images will be released soon! The line will be available for purchase by the end of October this year. Richard, the man behind the Flapkat, wants me to tell you to sign up for their mailing list (on their home page) so you can be the first to get your hands on Flapkat underwear. Brand Update: Cocksox

There's lots of great new stuff coming from Cocksox. The first thing, which in my opinion is probably the coolest, is brand new waistbands. Or should I say, an added waistband (because most Cocksox didn't have waistbands to begin with). These waistbands for the first time have the Cocksox logo embroidered across the top (sneak peek from Cocksox shown on right). They've made 50 kilometers of this stuff, so they definitely expect it to be a success. And I'm sure it will be, who doesn't want the words "Cocksox" embroidered around their waist? As they gradually transition from the old waistbands to the new there will be a period of time where you might be lucky enough to get one of the new waist bands before they're formally released! And at no extra cost!

The next new thing isn't really underwear, but it promises to be underwear soon. The folks at Cocksox brought together some of the best men in white coats and the latest computer technology to design a new way of making lycra print fabric. This new innovation promises to eliminate the cracking, fading, and running that sometimes happens with lycra prints. I can't wait to check it out and see how well it actually works. If this really does what they promise, it will definitely revolutionize the way we print on fabric and you will be sure to be seeing a lot more printed undies and swimsuits on the way. Well obviously, these new prints are exclusive to Cocksox so you won't find them anywhere else. So this Cocksox Original Prints design series comes in two prints on swim briefs, Cherry Paradise and Tiki Lagoon. So check them out. And I'm sure they will be coming out with more prints (and probably printed undies) soon! dik in a mailbox

That's right, dik is now coming to your door. If you have pre-ordered some dik it should be on it's way to your door soon. dik is beginning to ship out the products. And if you haven't ordered some yet, now is the perfect time to order because the wait is over. I should be getting some dik soon, so I'll let you know how it feels (and a whole lot more).

The idea behind the flapkat...

flapkat was an idea that literally came out of thin air.

Richard, creator and designer of flapkat underwear, was working at 40,000 feet for an airline traveling all over the world. He found that amongst all the other comforts essential to crew, underwear was an important one. “Cabin crew work very long hours at altitude, and the job can at times be very physical, and you need to feel comfortable”

flapkat came from Richards worldwide search for suitable underwear, “I found that only the boring styles and basic brands were comfortable, and I wanted to be comfortable and look good at the same time!”

Here was a challenge. Comfortable, and stylish.

In his spare room, Richard took things into his own hands, creating his own designs with this ‘brief’ in mind. Out of this came flapkat. “What started as a bit of fun, turned into a more of a reality for me.” Richard realized that a lot of major underwear brands that he was familiar with were international, “It was important for me to ensure that this underwear had a British angle. I am British, and I love Britain, and I wanted to show all that was great about modern Britain in the brand”. Richard’s designs are fun, sexy and unmistakably British in their appearance. The initial designs are in Red, White and Blue. They have an ergonomically designed ‘bi’ fly pouch, made of high quality cotton/lycra, and look and feel great! They come in a brief style, and a boxer brief.

Checkpoint Underwear Update

You may remember my post about a very cool brand of underwear called Checkpoint. Well I am sorry to report that they are no more. But don't fret. It's not as bad as it sounds. What happened is that Checkpoint was approached by lawyers and informed that their name had already been trade-marked. So after much negotiating, Stephane from Checkpoint informs me that "Checkpoint underwear has become CORE-POINT". Well you can imagine what this means in terms of the product. They must completely restart from scratch in developing the elastic waistbands and the packaging. As of my last conversation with Stephane (which was in late March) the rough release is early May. I just thought you might like to know.
